Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic to fight for heavyweight title at UFC 226

The UFC has announced today that current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will fight heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. The announcement was made this evening on FS1 during the weigh in show for this weekend’s UFC Fight Night event.

Miocic will be putting his heavyweight title on the line against Cormier in what promises to be one of the biggest and most highly anticipated fights in UFC history.

As the news broke this evening, Cormier posted the following post on his instagram feed.

Prior to the highly anticipated fight headlining UFC 226 in July, both fighters will act as coaches for the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated (TUF 27) with filming scheduled to begin next week.

UFC 226 is shaping up to be one of the biggest shows the UFC has ever put together and now includes two champion vs champion bouts. In addition to Cormier facing off against Miocic, current women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is set to battle Cris Cyborg for her women’s featherweight title.
