CES MMA has been the launching pad for many current UFC stars such as Charles Rosa and Rob Font. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet an Eastern submission specialist whose ground-based attack has proven to be a deadly threat in the UFC‘S middleweight division. A professional since February 2013 and representing Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas Nevada under the watchful eye of head coach John Wood, 31-year-old Eric Spicely owns a 10-3 record in 13 career bouts consisting of six submissions, two knockouts and two decisions. Prior to signing with the UFC in 2016, Spicely competed for CES MMA and was also featured on The Ultimate Fighter season 23 as a member of Team Claudia.
In his MMA debut at CES MMA Undisputed 2, he defeated Kemaran Lachinov via unanimous decision. Spicely defeated his next two opponents in Tyler Rose and Tundee Oduyingho. Then he submitted David Jordan in the first round via guillotine choke at CES MMA 23. Spicely defeated Nuri Shakir via TKO in the first round at CES MMA 25. He submitted Kevin Haley in the first round via heel hook at CES MMA 27 and Harley Beekman in the first round via armbar at CES MMA 29. At CES MMA 31, Spicely defeated Aaron Johnson via unanimous decision. In 2016, he was selected to be a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 23 cast as a light heavyweight contestant. Spicely earned his entry into the house by submitting Norway’s Kenneth Bergh in the first round via rear naked choke and was the second light heavyweight selection of Team Claudia. In episode six, he defeated Team Joanna’s Elias Urbina via unanimous decision and advanced to the semi-finals.
In his second UFC appearance at UFN 95, Spicely faced Brazilian Thiago Santos in his home country and pulled off the upset by submitting him in the first round via rear naked choke and also earned a Performance of the Night bonus in the process. For his third UFC outing, he faced Alessio Di Chirico at UFC on Fox 23 and submitted him via triangle choke in the first round. Stay out of the way of this Vegas ram otherwise, you will get the horns!
