Mayweather claims he was ‘blindsided’ by Rizin

It seems we have all been mistaken in believing Floyd Mayweather was to take part on Japanese MMA promotion Rizin and fight Tenshin Nasukawa in a special rules fight.

Floyd Mayweather has posted on his Instagram account that, in fact, he was ‘blindsided’ by Rizin!

In his statement, Mayweather has suggested he had never signed any official fight agreement to face Nasukawa, he was asked to do a 3 round exhibition bout against an opponent Rizin would pick.

Mayweather then goes on to say that once in Japan at the press conference that he and his team were derailed by the new developments and due to the fact that several fans had flown in specifically for the press conference he didn’t want to cause a major disturbance by combating what was said.

It certainly is a strange turn of events, considering he was photographed wearing Rizin MMA gloves and facing off against Nasukawa.

Also the fact Mayweather is not exactly shy at speaking out makes the fact he sat there and let the events play out seem odd.

As yet Rizin have made no comment.

Has this all just been a ploy to have people talking about Mayweather again or has he actually been ‘blindsided’.
