What’s Next For Darren Till?

With the year 2020 fast approaching, we look at the next possible match-ups for Liverpool’s own, Darren Till, who since his recent middleweight arrival has opened the door to the possibility of many exciting upcoming fights at 185lbs.

Coming off the back of a brilliant victory against former middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244, he has thrown himself right into the mix at the top of the division after just one fight, with many people picking him as a heavy underdog going into that fight at MSG. Just calling for that particular fight when many including UFC President Dana White were calling for him to take a lower-ranked opponent after 2 devastating losses, says a lot about Till in my opinion, he takes big risks for big rewards and remains confident in his abilities against the very best in the world and at UFC 244 it paid off hugely.

The next fight for the Gorilla looks set to take place at UFC London coming up in March, and Till has personally been calling for a fight with former UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker. With the Aussie seemingly accepting the challenge to travel over to London, this fight is truly on the cards to headline, with Whittaker looking to make a statement following his recent knockout loss to the newly crowned champion Israel Adesanya. Although, with the recent announcement of Conor McGregor‘s return to the octagon taking place in January, Till has also been calling for this fight to be the co-main event in Las Vegas, understandably with the viewership that can come with a McGregor show in town. A win would put Till in an incredible position and surely put him as the next in line for the throne so it would make a lot of sense on both sides and would make for one hell of a fight.

Another possibility for the Scouser’s next octagon appearance would be a number one contender fight with the surging star Jared Cannonier, which would make a lot of sense for the division. Cannonier coming off the back of a huge TKO win against Jack Hermansson back in September and Till’s recent victory over Gastelum, this seems to be the next logical fight to decide the next contender to step up and fight for the belt, with Paulo Costa currently on the sidelines for the foreseeable due to injury.

Another fight that Till was calling for after his win was a matchup with the ‘boogeyman’ of the division, Yoel Romero, which he jokingly claims to regret, stating he was “blind drunk” when he posted the callout to Instagram in a recent interview with our very own Katie Hunter. This would be a thrilling match up and a fight that no fight fan would want to miss & despite Till’s claims, I’m sure he would be very confident in his skillset going into this matchup.

Any fight that would be next for Till, he surely would not be looking past but realistically would be hoping to set him up for a megafight with the newly crowned undisputed champion, which stylistically makes for a very intriguing fight and is surely waiting in the wings if Till can continue his rise through the middleweight ranks.
