Featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov may walk away from UFC

As per the Russian news outlet TASS, the featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov is considering quitting the world’s biggest promotion, UFC.

Now, nothing has been officially announced by the fighter or his team. But the sources close to the fighter indicate that he no longer has the urge to compete inside the octagon.

Because of being inactive, Magomedsharipov was recently erased from the featherweight rankings. He last fought in 2019 against Calvin Kattar, where he won the fight via unanimous decision.

Zabit Magomedsharipov vs Yair Rodriguez was scheduled on multiple occasions, but the fight fell through as Rodriguez pulled out multiple times because of personal reasons. Since then, there has been no booking for Magomedsharipov. This has led the fighter to think about quitting the promotion.

“With a high degree of probability, Zabit will no longer fight,” said TASS, a Russian news outlet.

This could be a huge loss to UFC if Magomedsharipov walks away. The 30-year-old orthodox fighter is 18-1 in MMA, with 6-0 in UFC.

If UFC manages to get back the 30-year-old fighter back, then there is no argument that he should be given an opponent ranked in the top 5.

With Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega expected to fight later this year, the possible options left for Magomedsharipov are Max Holloway, Yair Rodriguez, and Chan Sung Jung.
