Kurtis Campbell speaks ahead of his scheduled featherweight title bout at UKFC 17, training and his future aspirations in the cage

Kurtis Campbell 4-0-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Bantamweight/Featherweight Division, representing MMA Academy Liverpool and KC Fightbase. An amateur competitor since 2018. He has competed for FCC and Preston based organisation UKFC.

I got a chance to have a chat with Kurtis to find out his thoughts regarding his fourth appearance for UKFC and find out more about his future aspirations within the cage.

I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Kurtis. How is training going leading up to your highly anticipated build-up to your scheduled featherweight title opportunity at UKFC 17?

“Training is going great. Everything is in place. My skills are improving day by day, feeling stronger and fitter as the days go by.”

When finding out the news that the featherweight title was vacated, was the possibility of adding to your gold an instant thought for your future aspirations at UKFC?

“Yes, I knew I would fight for the featherweight title if it was vacant or not, so just happy to be fighting for it and becoming a double champ. So happy I fight just before the year ends.”

Regarding the move to a higher weight, how did the transition go? Must have been an easier decision than dropping the weight with all that comes with weight cutting. How do you feel at featherweight?

“The moving to higher weight didn’t bother, me as I am a big bantamweight and still fit into featherweight quite well. It just allowed me to add more protein to my diet and lift weights more, which has improved my game so without cutting that much weight it’s very easy for me to make it and the refuel is better too, so at featherweight, I feel comfortable but at the same time looking to fight at 135lbs 145lbs 155lbs as I feel I can do good in all three divisions.”

November 27 you take on gifted featherweight Declan Fisher 2-0-0 of Manchester Top Team for the vacated UKFC featherweight title. What do you make of your opponent?

“Think my opponent is good and like his style, but I think my game will be too much for him on the day but I am looking forward to fighting him as he is a good tough fight, I’m so looking forward to sharing the cage with him.”

If you are successful come November 27th, you will become a member of one of the elite group of fighters to be graceful with the title ‘Champ-Champ’, would you be interested in defending both Bantamweight and Featherweight straps?

“Yes most definitely will be looking to be defending both belts but also will be looking to fight for more to add to my collection.”

Last but not least, do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to shout out to?

“Just like to thank my family, coaches and training partners for how they helped me through my fight camp and 27th November I will show my skills again and perform.”

With such an action-packed event about to erupt the very foundations of the Imperial Banqueting Suite, St. Mary’s Suite North in Preston, it is not one to be missed.
