UFC veteran, BRAD PICKETT, has announced the date for Rise of Champions’ (ROC) fourth show. The MMA organisation will move to a new home – The Brentwood Leisure Centre – for ROC 4, which will take place on September 30, 2017.
Whilst he’s matchmaking the rest of the card, Pickett has today confirmed the headline bout for the fourth instalment of ROC. Fellow UFC veteran, John Maguire will take on Shahid Hussain in a professional welterweight showdown.
Maguire, who ended his five-fight tear with a decision loss to Borys Mankowski in December 2016, will be looking to plant his feet – and no doubt a few fists – back in the winning column.
Maguire comments: “Hussain has been on a good run lately, so it will make for a good fight – just what I need! It will have been ten long months since my last fight by the time this comes around, so roll on September 30.”
Hussain’s good run last saw him triumph at Budo 18 in March of this year, as he beat Sami Berik via TKO.
Hussain comments: “I’m really looking forward to fighting Maguire. I always look to test my skill set against the best possible guys out there. I’ve been on a great run lately, and John has been in the UFC – it will be a great fight for me, I can’t wait!”
Of the event, Pickett adds: “This will be a great fight between two fantastic fighters – sparks will fly! We’re anticipating a big crowd to welcome us to our new home at the Brentwood Centre, and the rest of the line up is already starting to take shape. Once again, I’m looking forward to not only matching, but watching a night of amazing pro and amateur fights go down.”
Pickett and his long time coach, Mickey Papas set up ROC in 2015, as a home for both professional and amateur MMA athletes to hone their skills. The promotion has seen the likes of Mike Shipman, Daniel Crawford, Craig White, Corrin Eaton and Carl Booth pass through its cage, making it a must-see night out for UK MMA fans. The show even nudged its way into the mainstream media in 2016, with video of the amateur bout between actor-turned-athlete Josh Herdman and Janusz Walachowski going viral.
