Interview with Ross Houston conducted by Lewis Smith of MMA UK
Hi Ross, thanks for joining us. You have a big fight coming up against Lew Long, how are you feeling about this match up?
RH: I’m feeling excited to be getting an opponent like Lew Long. It’s what I’ve been working for. I’ve been doing this for about 7 years now, and it’s all built up for an opportunity and a fight like this. Trust me when I say I’m not going to let it slip through my fingers.
And is this the biggest fight of your career so far?
RH: yes without doubt, it’s a big match up. I’ve always said to everyone who knows me that when I’m in there it doesn’t matter who’s in front of me. It’s just one man against another man. The numbers or the experience don’t matter to me, it’s just another fight. I know the importance of it but I’m not letting the opponent get to my head.
After a big win last time out over Aaron Khalid, how much are you looking forward to returning to Newport?
RH: Newport is almost like my second home now, I’m there all the time. I’ve had two fights there so I’m comfortable with being down in Newport. I’ve made some good friends down there so the occasion won’t make too much difference to me to be honest. I enjoy it down there, and I’ve only got good memories, so between the good memories and good form it’s only gonna bring good things for me March 3rd.
Can you give us your prediction for the fight?
RH: I’m expecting a strong first few rounds. He comes out all guns blazing at the start, throwing heavy shots with his hands and big kicks. He stands for a wee bit but he’s really looking to initiate that clinch, as he’s got a strong clinch and Jiu jitsu game. He may get me down, but keeping me down is another thing. I’m gonna be scrambling, popping back to my feet, and I’ll repeat that process as many times as I need to. I think going in to the second round he’s going to be gassed and I can see me stoping him late in the second.
He brings a very unique challenge compared to other guys I’ve fought, but we know how we’re gonna solve that puzzle and get past Lew Long.
Ross ‘The Hitman’ Houston will face Lew ‘The Foot’ Long in the co – main event of Cage Warriors 91, at the Newport Centre, March 3rd.
