LFA 38 stars to watch – featuring Jeff Hughes, Bevon Lewis and Dane Sayers

On April 27, Legacy Fighting Alliance will return to Minnesota with LFA 38. Here are three fighters to keep a close eye on in the lead up to the event.

Jeff Hughes – The current LFA heavyweight champion heads into his first title defence riding an 8-1 record in nine career bouts consisting of four decisions, three knockouts and one submission. For me, this matchup is intriguing due to the fact we have two guys who come from totally different backgrounds with each man bringing their own set of unique tools to the table. I think that the key to victory for Hughes in this fight will lie in his ability to weather the storm early and then when his opponent tires out in the later stages of the fight, put his foot on the gas and relentlessly pour the pressure on with his heavy hands. I do not expect this title fight to make it past round three as three of Hughes’s eight career wins have come via knockout. His last victory inside the LFA cage came in November 2017 where he defeated Richard Odoms via unanimous decision in the main event of LFA 26 to capture the title. In Maurice Greene, Hughes will be a dangerous opponent who holds a 5-1 record in six career bouts with his last two wins coming via submission. Greene’s last victory inside the LFA cage came at LFA 19 in August 2017 where he submitted Jermaine McDermott in the first round via triangle choke.

Bevon Lewis – The Jackson-Wink MMA product returns to the LFA cage after appearing on week eight of season one of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. Despite only being four fights into his professional career, Lewis has shown that he can be very versatile in all aspects of his MMA game, hosting an unbeaten 4-0 record consisting of two knockouts and two decisions. I think that the key to victory for Lewis in this fight will lie in how he is able to outwork and outsmart his opponent at each and every turn. His last win came in August 2017 where he defeated TUF 23 alum Elias Urbina via TKO in round two at DWTNCS 8. In Collin Huckbody, Lewis will be facing a foe who owns all three of his wins via submission. LFA 38 will mark Huckbody’s debut for the promotion.

Dane Sayers – Nicknamed ”Red Horse”Dane Sayers was first introduced to MMA fans on season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter. In 15 career bouts, Sayers has amassed a 12-3 record, with eight of those wins coming via submission. His last MMA contest came in January 2015 where he defeated Clarence Jordan via unanimous decision at Dakota FC 20. I think that if Sayers can avoid the heavy hands of his foe and then be able to take it to the floor by round two, he will come out the victor in this contest.  In Tat Romero, Sayers will be facing a foe who owns a 29-6 record with most of those wins coming via knockout.
