UFC President Dana White held a media scrum with reporters on Friday after the UFC 231 ceremonial weigh in.
During the scrum, White said he was finished talking about Greg Hardy, his domestic violence history and Rachael Ostovich.
Greg Hardy is expected to make his UFC debut on the first ESPN+ show under the UFC‘s new TV deal on January 19th in Brooklyn. The former NFL player was charged of domestic abuse in 2014, leading to a 10 game suspension from the NFL. The charges were later dropped after the alleged victim failed to turn up in court to testify.
Ostovich was already booked to appear on this card before an alleged domestic violence incident involving her husband caused her to originally pull out due to injuries suffered. Ostovich has since been cleared to fight Paige Van Zant after she insisted on competing.
The UFC has been criticised for opting to put Hardy on the same card of Ostovich.
“I’m not going to talk about Greg Hardy anymore,” White said. “I already covered this. I’m not playing this bullshit with you guys. He’s on the UFC roster. He’s on the UFC roster – period, end of story.”
White claims Ostovich is fine with Hardy appearing on same card and wasn’t booked until she said she was ok with it.
“So we’ve been building this ESPN card for a while, and he was one of the guys that we had planned on putting on that card,” White said. “But, no, it wasn’t booked (without Ostovich knowing).”
According to White, the only people making an issue are the media.
“He’s on the roster. You guys want to be sensitive about shit. Anybody can be sensitive about anything. You can make an issue about everything,” White said. “The weird thing is you guys give a (expletive), but she doesn’t. She doesn’t care. You know what she said yesterday in her statement? ‘Please stop asking me about this. I want to focus on training. I don’t want this to be an issue for me. I don’t know this guy. This guy has nothing to do with me. I have nothing to do with this guy. This guy’s never done anything to me. This isn’t an issue.’
“You, you. you … and a lot of other people are making this an issue. It’s not an issue for her. She actually doesn’t want to talk about it anymore.”
“If you guys want to keep bringing this up and making it an issue, you can. And I get it. It probably gets hits, and it probably does well for you guys. I get it,” White said. “But she doesn’t want to talk about it anymore. So that’s the end of the story. I’m done with it. I’m done with it. I’m done with it.
“I’m done with it!”
