Glover Teixeira (31-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) is out of the UFC Fight Night 177 headliner after he had tested positive for COVID-19, Thiago Santos (21-7 MMA, 13-6 UFC) is now left without an opponent although it is understood that the UFC are not looking for a replacement. The fight is set to be pushed back to October 3rd for UFC Fight Night 179 that is set to take place on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
This is a very high profile fight for the light heavyweight division as the winner could be next in line for a title shot after Jon Jones vacated the title and a championship bout has been set between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz at UFC 253 on September 26th.
Santos has been inactive since July 2019 after suffering torn ligaments in both knees in a close split decision loss to champion Jon Jones. Teixeira is on a four fight win streak and recently put in a impressive performance against Anthony Smith that saw him earn a TKO victory in the fifth round. Both fighters will be eager to get back into the octagon to claim the number one contenders spot and a maybe a shot at the new champion.
There has been no news on what fight will be the new main event but we will be sure to keep you updated.
