After an original story from ESPN.com, numerous people with knowledge of the promotion’s preparations told MMA Fighting that Darren Till and Derek Brunson are now set to meet at UFC 266, according to several people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans.
The main event of UFC 266 will be a light heavyweight title battle between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira. The Till vs. Brunson fight was supposed to be the main event of a Fight Night event on Aug. 14, but it was postponed. Though plans may alter, the marketing continues to target London as the host city — most likely at The O2 venue.
Till last fought in the octagon in July, when he was defeated by ex-champ Robert Whittaker in a tactical five-rounder at UFC Fight Island 3. After back-to-back stoppage losses against now-former champion Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal, he returned to the middleweight category and is now 1-1.
Brunson, meanwhile, is riding a four-fight winning streak after suffering back-to-back knockout losses to Ronaldo Souza and current champion Israel Adesanya.
Although Whittaker appears to be the favorite to face the winner of Adesanya vs. Vettori for the middleweight title at UFC 263, the winner of Till vs. Brunson should be in line for a title eliminator.
