Luke Rockhold returns, Garbrandt to Flyweight, Middleweight clash and more

Yesterday and today saw plenty of matchups made for future UFC events. Just today, it was confirmed by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that Luke Rockhold will return to the cage against Sean Strickland.

Rockhold last fought in July 2019 where he stepped up to Light Heavyweight to take on current champion Jan Blachowicz. Rockhold has been eyeing a return for sometime and finally gets it in #8 ranked Middleweight Sean Strickland who picked up his fifth straight against Uriah Hall this past weekend. They will meet at UFC 268 on November 6th.

Yesterday saw the most fights announced. Firstly, Cody Garbrandt will be back in the octagon on December 11th but this bout sees him drop down a weight class to Flyweight. He will take on Kai-Kara France in what promises to be an exciting fight. Garbrandt was last in the cage in May this year where he dropped a decision to Rob Font. France last appeared in the octagon in March this year where he knocked out Rogerio Bontorin.

A Middleweight clash was also confirmed as Paulo Costa takes on Marvin Vettori. Both men’s last bout was against current Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya with Vettori being the more active fighter with a fight in June this year. Costa last fought in September 2020 and although there had been matchups announced earlier in the year for Costa he pulled out of those fights citing fighter pay as the issue. Many fans would probably be more excited for this, but the concern is that someone pulls out. The fight is scheduled for October 23rd.

Other announcements sees Joanne Calderwood taking on Alexa Grasso. That fight is set for a UFC event on November 20th. Islam Makhachev will fight for the third time this year against fellow Lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos. After some back and forth between the two, the pair have agreed to meet on October 30th.
