Scotland’s Hannah Rankin has become a two-time World Champion after a points win over Maria Lindberg (19-7-2) from Sweden at the Tottenham Hotspur Football Ground.
Rankin reclaimed the IBO Super Welterweight title she won a couple of years ago on a memorable night in Paisley, Scotland that was beamed live across Scotland on the BBC. This time the show would be live on Fightzone and Rankin (11-5) would pick up the WBA title as well.
The fight was a close encounter with both boxers standing their ground, as the fight wore on Rankin’s jab was finding its target more regularly. The middle rounds both fighters would have their moments but Rankin seemed to land the eye catching punches and some good all round boxing.
Lindberg and Rankin raised their hands at the end of the fight but only the Scot would be celebrating winning by points on all three judges scorecards comfortably, 98-92, 97-93×2.
Rankin’s compatriot, David Jamieson from East Kilbride also fought on the card. The cruiserweight made short work of late replacement Dave Preston as he wade into his body, the stoppage cane in the second round after Preston was knocked to the canvas by a headshot. Jamieson moves to 7-1.
Lilyella Craw-Seaman, a Glasgow based Norfolk fighter, who is trained by Scottish Boxing Hall of Famer, Gary Jacobs, also picked up a win by beating Ester Konecna, 60-54 points win.
