Former flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo has continued his attack on Dana White and the UFC as well as current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
The Champ Volkanovski appeared on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour where he addressed the former Triple C’s callouts “the UFC is thinking what’s the point? you don’t deserve it., and then if somehow, you do get it done. what are you gonna do? just retire again”. The series of tweets started back on January 7th when the news broke that former champ Max Holloway was pulling out of his scheduled trilogy bout with Volkanovski, with Cejudo posting “Triple C to the rescue. @danawhite you have my number. #C4 #bendtheknee”
Cejudo has teased several times about a return at featherweight in a bid to become “C4” and with Holloway’s withdrawal along with there being no clear second in line for a title shot it seemed like it could be a perfect time. there have obviously been several featherweights throwing their hat into the ring for the title shot, most vocally being Giga Chikadze before his loss at the weekend to Calvin Kattar. However, it was Triple C’s callouts that appeared to make the most sense.
As we know now, the Korean Zombie will be stepping in for the title shot, a decision that got an immediate reaction from Cejudo with him tweeting “Hey @alexvolkanovski it figures you would go for the Zombie…and not the guy that would turn you into the Walking Dead.”
The tweets have continued ever since, with Cejudo taking aim at anyone from Dana White to Conor McGregor and even to flyweight contender Kai Kara-France who had advised Cejudo to avoid the Volkanovski fight “you don’t want Volk walking you down”
It is hard not to agree with Cejudo’s tweets, as John McCarthy pointed out on his Twitter “So @HenryCejudo has not fought in 617 days. @GeorgesStPierre had not fought for 1450 days and was given a Middleweight Title fight with @bisping after being gone for more than twice the time. Does @danawhite really expect people to believe that Henry just can’t jump the line??”
It will be very interesting to see if Henry Continues his pursuit of the featherweight strap after the bout with Korean Zombie, or if this will just be another little bit of hype that leads nowhere.
