In an event that was filled with UFC alumni and matchups that were sure to deliver, fans instead witnessed two of the unluckiest co-main and main events during EFC 47.
In the main event, we saw former UFC champ Junior Dos Santos (21-10) make his return to MMA and competition after a 2 year layoff when he took on former UFC HW Yorgan DeCastro (9-3) in the main event.
During this fight the former champ was looking like a younger version of himself as he was showing his usual footwork and hand speed at the same time he showed patience and poise that comes with being a veteran of 31 fights, his kicks played a major role in breaking his opponent slowly.
As the fight progressed into the 3rd JDS was dominating Yorgan who looked gun shy at times even though he possesses KO power. JDS had Yorgan against the cage and was mid combination when his shoulder dislocated, immediately JDS backed off and began trying to pop it back in place but was unable to, his opponent signalled to the reff who, to be honest, didn’t do much of anything but watch.
During this JDS can audibly be heard screaming NO in agony. It was an unfortunate ending to the comeback of the former champ as this pushes his losing streak to 5 (the last win was a TKO of Derrick Lewis). This could ruin the plans of a JDS vs Fedor collaboration with Bellator that had been floated as a possibility with Scott Coker.
The Co-main featured a bout between two former contenders, a former Bellator champ in Hector Lombard (34-10-1)and Thiago Silva (21-9-3). The bout had its moments with Hector controlling the 1st round with heavy punches and top position. In the second Thiago floored Lombard with a straight and proceeded to land an illegal knee to a downed opponent, the bout was declared a no contest.
