GAMMA Asian-Pacific Championships 2022 Officially Launched

The first event of the GAMMA Asian-Pacific Championships 2022 took place earlier today when a press conference was held for local media in Pattaya, Thailand signalling the official launch of the event.

The press conference comes after GAMMA announced last week that the Continental championships were being expanded to include the Pacific Islands. This will be the very first time that the event will take place following the inaugural edition of the Asian Championships which was held in Kyrgyzstan last year.

GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt joined the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya Kritsana Boonsawad, the President of the IFSA General Taweep Jantararoj, and Vice President Achilleus Ralli at the event which saw a large contingent of local media in attendance.

The Deputy Mayor passed on his support on behalf of the city, “We are very happy to welcome the GAMMA community to Pattaya for these important Championships. MMA is very popular in Thailand and we are looking forward to a very competitive and entertaining event that will generate a lot of public interest,” said Boonsawad.

“We are expecting to have more countries and athletes participating in these Championships than we had in 2021 and I want to thank all the authorities for their support in making this possible. I hope that this event will help with the ongoing development of MMA across the country and act as a great advert for Pattaya and Thailand to host more events in the future,” added Engelhardt.

The press conference was kindly sponsored by real estate company ONCE Pattaya who opened the doors to one of their properties, the Siamese Hotel in the north of the city for the event.

The GAMMA Asian-Pacific Championships will take place from 9 to 13 November and will feature three days of competition at the Pattaya Asian Indoor Stadium with qualifying rounds taking place on Day 1 (Friday 11) and 2 (Saturday 12) before the day of finals on Sunday 13 November.
