The UFC have seemingly confirmed a title bout between Jon Jones and Cyril Gane. The bout was shown being advertised outside of the T-Mobile arena.
While the bout is yet to be officially confirmed by the UFC on social media, it is hard to imagine it being a hoax given the location of the advertisement
The identity of Jon Jones’s first heavyweight opponent has been one of the most speculated about things in the sport, with many thinking it would be the current Champion, Francis Ngannou. The champ however has been sidelined for some time since defending his belt against Cyril Gane. Others thought perhaps former champ and concensus best UFC heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic could be the one to welcome the light heavyweight goat to the division. The latest rumblings were that if Ngannou wasn’t ready by March, then Curtis Blaydes would be the man to step up. All of which seem to have been dismissed by this latest development.
One interesting thing to note is that in the picture it does not say ‘Interim’. With Ngannou’s status in the company already in question, does this mean a departure for the champ? Or simply a title stripping due to inactivity?
