Michael ‘Venom’ Page, more commonly known as MVP has caused a stir in the world of mixed martial arts as he’s announced via the MMA Hour that he has officially become a free agent. MVP is a man with an undoubtedly exciting and fan-friendly style that is guaranteed to have promotions fighting for his signature. MVP who holds a record of (21-2) said Bellator can still choose to match any new contract offers, however, he believes the promotion will allow him to walk if he wants to pursue other opportunities. He noted that he has “a lot of options on the table” and a return to boxing or bare-knuckle boxing is possible as well. MVP has also announced that he plans to be in attendance this Saturday for the UFC fight night taking place in London.
Page who is now 36 years old will be looking to capitalise on his fame in the MMA world and turn this free agency into a lucrative new challenge. MVP has been a member of the Bellator roster since 2013 and has the most knockouts in the promotion’s history with an impressive 11 to his name, his only two losses within the promotion came in world title fights where he suffered a controversial decision loss against Logan Storley and a vicious KO defeat at the hands of Douglas Lima. To his credit Page has picked up some impressive wins during his Bellator stint, with victories against the likes of Derek Anderson, Paul Daley, Douglas Lima and of course, the 2016 KO of the year coming against Evangelista Santos.
With this news coming seemingly out of nowhere yesterday, I have no doubt that several organisations are ready to make Page an offer. He now gets the opportunity to truly test his value in the MMA world and potentially make that long-awaited UFC debut. Hears what he had to say on the matter “I think it’s time for me to just explore what else is out there. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to go back with Bellator. It just means I want to see what other people think of ‘MVP.’” exciting times for British fans of Page and I for one am gonna keep a close eye on how this one unfolds.
