One of the most unique MMA events of the year heads to Arizona this Friday night!
Olympic gold medallist, Henry Cejudo, leads Team Phoenix into battle against heavyweight legend, Frank Mir, and his Team Vegas competitors at UFL 5 on Friday, August 30. The winning city will walk away with $50,000 to share amongst its fighters in ‘The NBA of MMA’.
Fighters will earn more points for their team the earlier they finish their bouts in the five Team Phoenix vs. Team Vegas contests scheduled to take place. If the scores are even at the end of the night, the winning side will be decided based on the shortest cage time needed to reach their points total.
In the main event, Hunter Azure (11-3) will defend his bantamweight title against fellow UFC veteran, Vince Morales (15-7), as part of the Team Phoenix vs. Team Vegas series. Azure won the belt at UFL 4 when he shocked Amun Cosme with a thunderous right hand knockout and wants to continue his newfound momentum at home for Team Phoenix. His adversary, Morales, has been victorious in all of his four bouts since leaving the UFC, three of which have been by impressive stoppage.
Due to gold being on the line, this headlining bout is worth more points with six up for grabs if the fight is finished in the first round. The pair of bantamweights can claim five points for their team if they achieve a stoppage in round two and so on.
PFL alumni, Sheymon Moraes (15-6), takes on late replacement, TJ Brown (18-11), in the lightweight co-main event. The Brazilian representing Team Phoenix is making his UFL debut following a TKO victory over Marlon Moraes in his last outing. Brown stepped into this fight on just hours’ notice and is returning to MMA after picking up wins in bare knuckle, boxing and kickboxing. A maximum of four points can be earned in this exciting showdown.
Elsewhere on the card, carnage is guaranteed when knockout artist, Marcus Nash (1-0), collides with fellow finisher, Trent Miller (5-1), at middleweight. Undefeated, Ray Waters (4-0), meets Team Vegas’, William Gibson (3-1), in a welterweight matchup and ‘Samurai’, Jackson Santa Cruz (7-4), squares off with all-action, Anvar Boynazarov (5-3), at bantamweight.
Hunter Azure wins the UFL bantamweight belt
