Karlos Vémola defends light heavyweight title against Will Fleury inside O2 Arena at OKTAGON 65
An absolutely HUGE fight between two larger than life personalities is official for our annual, year-end spectacular.
Czech superstar, Karlos Vémola (37-8), will put his light heavyweight belt on the line against Irish warrior, Will Fleury (13-3, 1NC), at OKTAGON 65 in the stunning O2 Arena, Prague. The pair have history together that goes back many years, and their simmering rivalry will finally come to a head on Sunday, December 29.
Back in July 2014, ‘The Terminator’ and Fleury were sparring together at London Shootfighters gym, preparing for their respective fights. According to the Irishman, during that session, Vémola ruptured Fleury’s ATFL in his ankle which put him out of action for a while. Fleury wasn’t happy with how his rival dealt with the aftermath of the situation and has wanted payback ever since.
Vémola went on to become one of the most successful fighters in Europe and most recently defended his belt at Eden Stadium in a rematch opposite Attila Végh. He decided against retirement and was gearing up to seek retribution against ‘Pirát’ Krištofič but that bout was thwarted due to an injury to the Slovakian.
Fleury made his OKTAGON MMA debut earlier this year and submitted Daniel Škvor in the second round. He followed this up by knocking out Pavol Langer devastatingly in front of over 59,000 fans after just 91 seconds last month. He immediately called ‘The Terminator’ out inside the cage and Vémola has now responded. The fight that everyone wants to see is ON!
OKTAGON 65 is already stacked despite only a number of fights being announced and is sure to be one of the best European MMA cards of the year. Ronald Paradeiser (21-8) and Losene Keita (15-1) will clash in the €1 million Tipsport Gamechanger tournament final in a bout where ‘Rony’s’ lightweight title will be up for grabs as well as the #1 P4P ranking spot in OKTAGON MMA. Lucia Szabová (8-0) and Lucie Pudilová (15-10) will meet for the vacant bantamweight title and Shem Rock (11-1-1) looks to silence Prague once again when he squares off with knockout artist, Jakub Bahník (10-5, 1NC), at lightweight.
