According to a report by Alexander Behunin of MMAmania, a grudge match between #10 ranked Middleweight Marvin Vettori and #11 ranked Middleweight Brendan Allen has been added to the UFC 318 card for July 19 in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is not the first time that this fight has been booked to happen. In April last year, the two ranked middleweights were scheduled to headline a UFC Fight Night card. However, Vettori suffered an injury which forced him to pull out of the fight and was replaced by Chris Curtis. Allen would defeat Curtis by split decision in their rematch after Curtis defeated him by TKO in their first fight a couple of years prior.

The two got in a fist fight in the Hard Rock casino after PFL Hollywood last August.

A couple of weeks later, following 2024 PFL Playoffs 2, a video surfaced of Vettori and Allen on a casino floor getting into a brawl with each other. Vettori is currently coming off a two-fight skid, where he lost to both Jared Cannonier and Roman Dolidze by unanimous decision. He is looking to get back into the column after suffering his first losing streak in his professional MMA career. This will be a great challenge for Vettori, while he is also dealing with the tragic loss of his younger brother, who recently passed away in a house fire.
Ever since Allen was defeated by Chris Curtis in their first fight, he would go on a seven-fight winning streak, which included a rematch win over Curtis. He would then lose to the now-ranked #1 contender in the division, Nassourdine Imavov and then rising contender Anthony Hernandez, both by unanimous decision. Just like Vettori, Allen is looking to bounce back from the first losing streak of his professional MMA career. Both fighters cannot afford another loss as a third loss for either fighter could put their status as a top-ranked Middleweight in jeopardy.
Also on the card is the headliner of a highly anticipated rubber match between Max Holloway and Louisiana’s own Dustin Poirier. This fight will be for the BMF title, which Holloway currently holds. The two have previously fought each other at Featherweight in 2012 and for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship in 2019, where Poirier has won both fights. This will be Holloway’s final chance to get a win over Poirier, as this will be Poirier’s final professional MMA fight.
