In the UFC, one punch can rewrite history. One perfectly timed kick, one unexpected flying knee, one mistake—and it’s over.
These moments don’t just end fights—they stop time. Fans remember where they were. Fighters are etched into highlight reels forever. And whether you’re cage-side or watching from home, you feel the shock in your chest.
Violent knockouts are a brutal reminder of the raw nature of MMA. Here are the five most vicious knockouts in UFC history—ones that made jaws drop and legends out of fighters.
5. Rashad Evans vs. Sean Salmon
Event: UFC Fight Night 8 (January 2007)
Finish: Head kick KO, Round 2
Rashad Evans was still climbing the ranks when he faced Sean Salmon, but he made sure fans wouldn’t forget his name after this one.
In the second round, Evans set up a high kick with a quick feint. Salmon, hands low and flat-footed, never saw it coming. The kick landed flush. Lights out.
Salmon collapsed like a board—one of the most chilling knockouts ever broadcast live on Spike TV. Evans would later become a UFC light heavyweight champion, but this was the night he truly arrived.
4. Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
Event: UFC 100 (July 2009)
Finish: Overhand right (H-Bomb), Round 2
The build-up to this fight was pure fire. Bisping talked, Henderson listened—and then delivered the most iconic overhand right in MMA history.
Known now as the “H-Bomb,” Henderson’s right hand landed square on Bisping’s jaw, sending him crashing to the mat. But it didn’t end there. Henderson followed up with a leaping forearm to a clearly unconscious Bisping, adding fuel to a rivalry that had reached boiling point.
It was the perfect storm of brutality and timing—and at UFC 100 no less, the UFC’s biggest event to that point. Henderson’s KO remains a top highlight in every UFC promo package.
3. Edson Barboza vs. Terry Etim
Event: UFC 142 (January 2012)
Finish: Spinning wheel kick, Round 3
Some knockouts are violent because of the damage they cause. Others, like this one, are violent because of how suddenly and flawlessly they happen.
With less than three minutes left in the final round, Barboza threw a spinning wheel kick that landed flush on Etim’s chin. Etim froze mid-step and fell backward like a statue.
The reaction said it all: Joe Rogan gasped, the crowd in Rio erupted, and Barboza became the first UFC fighter to end a fight with a spinning wheel kick. Even years later, it’s still one of the cleanest and most shocking knockouts you’ll ever see.
2. Francis Ngannou vs. Alistair Overeem
Event: UFC 218 (December 2017)
Finish: Uppercut from hell, Round 1
Ngannou is known for his freakish power, but what he did to Overeem that night in Detroit was different.
Midway through Round 1, Ngannou ducked under a hook and uncorked an uppercut that practically lifted Overeem off his feet. It wasn’t just a KO—it was a statement. Overeem was stiff before he even hit the mat.
This wasn’t your usual knockout. Overeem was an elite, battle-tested heavyweight, and Ngannou made it look like he was swatting a fly. The replays were almost hard to watch—and that says everything.
1. Jorge Masvidal vs. Ben Askren
Event: UFC 239 (July 2019)
Finish: Flying knee, 5 seconds, Round 1
This is the fastest knockout in UFC history—and arguably the most violent.
Askren was undefeated and known for his wrestling. Masvidal knew what was coming. So, at the opening bell, he sprinted across the cage and launched a flying knee that landed perfectly on Askren’s head.
Askren’s body went stiff midair. Masvidal followed up with a few unnecessary shots before referee Jason Herzog pulled him off—but the damage was done.
5 seconds. One knee. Career changed. Legacy made.
Masvidal had etched himself into UFC history. And while the knockout was stunning, the premeditated nature of it made it almost scary. He planned that. He practiced it. And he executed it perfectly.
