Paddy Pimblett Responds To Rumours Of August Fight Vs. Justin Gaethje

Paddy Pimblett has had a crazy week, and it all started after Ilia Topuria knocked out the number two ranked Lightweight and former champion Charles Oliveira to win the vacant UFC Lightweight championship after Islam Makhachev decided to move up to Welterweight, attempting to achieve a championship in a second weight class. After the former Featherweight Champion Topuria, who also vacated his title to move up and achieve a champion in a second weight class, Joe Rogan brought in Paddy Pimblett into the octagon during his post-fight interview. Topuria and Pimblett have had a bad history outside of the octagon, which included numerous altercations where they have fought on the same card in the past. Topuria shoved Pimblett in the post-fight interview, creating the assumption that this is going to be the next title fight at 155 pounds and Topuria’s first title defence in the division.

On top of all this, there have been rumours of a potential fight with fellow top-five ranked Lightweight Justin Gaethje, who is a former Interim Lightweight Champion as well as a former BMF Champion. This fight has been rumoured to be taking place at UFC 319 in August, which is going to be headlined by the UFC Middleweight title fight between champion Dricus Du Plessis and the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. Du Plessis, who is headlining the card, has claimed that Pimblett and Gaethje will be the co-headliners for the card he is fighting at. However, ‘The Baddy’ went onto X and stated that: “Yous are mad if you think I’m fighting in August 🤣🤣”!

This implies that the short notice is not ideal for Pimblett as the event is less than two months away and could be next in line for a title shot against the new champion, Topuria. Pimblett has been undefeated in the UFC and most recently defeated Michael Chandler in a dominant performance where he finished Chandler in the third round of a five-round co-main event bout at UFC 314 in April.
