Ian Garry is set for the biggest fight of his career as he takes on Islam Makhachev at UFC 330, with the pair clashing at the pre-fight presser ahead of the highly anticipated fight. The pair will face-off in Main Event for the UFC Welterweight title in Philadelphia.
In perhaps the toughest matchups of both men’s careers, the fight will provide an intriguing watch for fans around the world. The buildup has brought with it controversy for Ian Garry as fans have been dissecting comments he has made in the media leading up to fight week however, it has not affected the Irishman’s confidence as he had has spoke with bravado leading into this fight.

Garry clashed with Makhachev in the pre-fight press conference with Mackhacev seemingly not a fan of Garry’s attitude leading into this fight. Whilst Makhachev was answering a question regarding how his late coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov would think of his career, Garry interrupted the question which annoyed the Dagestani.

Garry interrupted saying “He’d be proud of him, look at what he’s done. He’d be… sorry, champ, can I answer this for you? Can I answer that, though? He’d be proud of him. Look at what he’s done in the sport.” Garry added “He’s carried the flag for his country and won two world titles. It’s impossible for any man not to be proud of what this man has done. He’s the best fighter on the planet.”
Despite the compliments, Makhachev was annoyed by Garry answering what was clearly and emotional question intended for him, repeatedly telling Garry to “shut up”. In what has been a tame buildup, perhaps this will spark animosity between the two.
The fight is set to take place on Saturday night and is perhaps the most intriguing matchup of skills this year in the UFC. Both fighters are very well-rounded, with Garry being known for his elite striking and Mackhacev for his grappling however both are more than capable of mixing it up. That is where the fight becomes intriguing, as Garry will want to keep it on the feet, and the question becomes whether he’s good enough to stop Islam from dominating him via grappling. What is known is this will provide one of the most interesting watches of the year.
