The return of Darren Till is highly anticipated following his October knockout victory over Donald Cerrone and the Liverpool-born fighter is targeting a return at UFC 224.
The event takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and is expected to be headlined by Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight championship against either Raquel Pennington or Cris Cyborg.
Till wants to compete on the card against the former lightweight champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. The 25-year-old has previously resided in Brazil and speaks fluent Portuguese making South America the perfect destination for his comeback.
Speaking to MMAFighting on why he wants to fight at 224, Till said: “Just because of his fan base there,” Till said, “and I’ve obviously lived there. I’ve got a lot of fans there, and I can speak the language. It would be a good sell in Brazil, if he’s willing to do it.”
Dos Anjos has fought three times since moving up to 170lbs picking up wins over Tarec Saffiedine, Neil Magny, and former champion, Robbie Lawler. His victories has seemingly granted a shot at Tyron Woodley’s welterweight crown but the American is yet to return to action following shoulder surgery.
“I know he’s waiting for [Tyron] Woodley but Woodley doesn’t seem to want to come back,” said Till.
Till has successfully recovered from illness and is back in training. He has a plethora of challengers awaiting him including Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman and Stephen Thompson.
The UFC had previously tried to book Till against ‘Wonderboy’ earlier in the year but that fight failed to materialise.
