Malik Basahel 4-0-0 is a Saudi Arabian amateur Mixed Martial Artist. An amateur competitor since 2020, representing AVT Leeds. He has competed in the Saudi Mixed Martial Arts Federation: MMA National Kingdom Tournament and Caged Steel.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Malik. I’d also like to congratulate you on your resounding victory over Ethan Silvey back at Caged Steel 27 back in December.
This being your second appearance for the Doncaster based organisation and home to many of your teammates at AVT, I can imagine the W was a top priority?
“A win is always the most important thing for me, I train hard and be prepared as much as I can to be confident to get the win and training with a solid team like AVT is helpful and pushes me to become a better version of myself.”
With the dust now settled from the epic showdown with Ethan on December 12th, taking the amateur scene by storm, now 4-0-0 in your respective weight division have you thought of what’s next for you in your amateur career in the cage?
“Just keep fighting and getting more time in that cage, as an amateur you wanna get as much experience as you can and that’s what I’m doing, keep learning and keep training, just keep trying to be better and evolve.”
After a successful fight camp and the holiday celebrations over, I bet it’s great to be mid camp while your way up to your options?
“After my last fight, I have just been back training like nothing has changed, didn’t get any injuries so was able to be back on Monday training and use this time to focus on Myself to be better as a fighter.”
AVT had one hell of a 2021 and has been one of the stand out gyms of late, bringing elite fighters to many organisations and coming home with well earned Championship gold. Eat is it like to be a part of the well-oiled machine that is AVT Leeds?
“Training at AVT has made me a better fighter, training with high-level guys and so many great fighters in that gym both amateurs and pros, so it’s been amazing to train there and learn from the guys.”
Last but not least do you have a message to your fans and anybody you’d like to shout to?
“I just wanna say thank you to those who supported me and wished me luck for the fight and thank you to a great team in AVT with the help of great coaches such as Danny and Jay.”
The amateur division is ripe with future stars making waves on their journey to the professional scene, Caged Steel has proved time and time again that they will nurture and provide a platform for these up and coming warriors.
