Corey Harris 5-2-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the middleweight division. He has competed for Cage Warriors South East, Beserka FC and Battle Arena.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Corey and also to congratulate you on your World Title opportunity at Battle Arena Nottingham.
“Hi Aaron, I’d also like to start by thanking you for reaching out to me!”
I hope training camp has been going well in the build-up to your scheduled return to the cage?
“Training camps been going really well, I haven’t, fortunately, picked up any major injuries, so that means I’ve been able to get in all of the hard sessions I’ve needed too.”
Last we saw you in action was back in March at CWSE27, taking on Connor Hayes in a Middleweight Title showdown at Charter Hall in Essex. Despite a valiant effort, the night wasn’t yours. What did you take from your meeting with Conner?
“I experienced a lot in my fight with Connor. I got to feel what being on cage warriors was like and the level of skills the fighters have there just gave me drive to train harder. So no matter what, you’ve always got to test yourself against the best.”
Looking forward, you are set once again to prove that you are one of the best amateur Middleweight contenders in the country. At Battle Arena Nottingham May 28th, you take on Norway’s Noah Mitaev.
No stranger to the UK circuit, he holds a similar record to yourself. While sharpening your proverbial tools for your scheduled meeting, have you managed to do anything in the way of research on Noah?
“So what happens is when I get a name, I’ll watch a couple of his fights and so will my coaches. We’ll talk about what styles he’s got and if we see anything in particular he likes to do. After that I don’t watch anything else, I just concentrate on what I’m doing in my training to win the fight instead of worrying about what he’s doing.”
Without giving too much away what steps have you been taking to make sure your return to the cage sees you leaving Nottingham with the Battle Arena Title firmly around your waist?
“After my loss to Connor, i went back to the gym straight away and just knuckled down with a fire in my belly to get one back to show that just because you get knocked down, doesn’t mean you stay down, you just take it out on the next lad!’
After capturing Middleweight gold with Beserka and this being your second amateur title opportunity this year, it really shows your pure level to succeed at the highest level of the brutal yet exhilarating world of Mixed Martial Arts.
With an obvious desire to succeed, there is no doubt that one day we could be seeing you on your professional journey with a big platform. Is there a particular organisation in mind that you have set your future sights on?
“After all these years behind closed doors mate all my hard work is starting to pay off. just before Christmas I got accepted into the England MMA team and that is why we’re in the middleweights. It really inspired me to push myself. I attend monthly England team training sessions with the best coaches that the country has to offer. When you’re mixing with the best UK talent, it’s just a breeding ground for success.”
“I’ve just been accepted into the 4 nations MMA tournament being held at the Liverpool expo in June. Which will include England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Me and another lad on the team will be in a 16 man knockout style tournament. And then the Europeans in Italy in September, which I’m hoping to go on if all goes well.”
“So for now mate, I’m going to be sticking to being and amateur and enjoying being on this journey and see where it takes me.”
With the 28th drawing near, fans have got an explosive night of pure unadulterated organised violence ahead of them at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village. Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?
“Yeah, there’s quite a few lads from our gym. think about 6/7. A couple in particular would be Jake stark and Dorian Swiatkowski. Couple of experienced lads who always come to scrap.”
Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?
“I’m going in there to take that belt away from him and leave no doubt in the judges minds that I’m coming out a world champion.”
