Fightstar Championship has prided itself in playing host to some of the most explosive up and coming amateurs on the fight scene, on November 19th they have one again added some of the technical talent available.
Delffy Humer vs Bobby Chikavhu is definitely one to watch out for. Both of these exceptional amateurs hold an unbeaten record, as well as being part of 2 of the most dangerous gyms in the country in GB Top Team and London Shootfighters.
I took a trip down to GB Top Team to speak with one half of this absolutely incredible bout Delffy Humer, as he prepares for war in just under 3 weeks.
Delffy ‘El Guerrero DD’ Humer (3-0-0) is a Dominican Republican amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Flyweight division, representing Great Britain Top Team. He has competed for Fighting Force Promotions, Cage Warriors Academy South-East and is making his Debut on November 19th for Fightstar Championship.
I’d like to start things off by thanking you for taking the time to speak with me today Delffy, and also to congratulate you on your upcoming inclusion to the Fightstar Championship 23 card.
“Thank you so much for taking the time to visit me here for this interview, it’s a pleasure to speak with you, and I’m excited to fight on Fightstar”
My pleasure Delffy.
I hope training has been going well as you prepare to once again take the walk to the cage?
“Yeah, I am prepared all the time for a fight. I’m always training in preparation for a fight, I came here not only for training, but to accomplish my dreams.”
I can see you’ve worked very hard to achieve this.
November 19th will be your second walk to the cage in the space of a month, previously tasting victory at Cage Warriors Academy South-East 29.
Was it your intention to step back in the cage as soon as possible?
“Yeah, it was all planned out that I’d be fighting again on the 19th. I’m also hoping to fight again on the 10th of December, because all I want to do is fight.
It’s great to see such dedication, definitely the best way to get your name out there.
Recently moving to the UK from The Dominican Republic, you have already made your intentions known that you intend to succeed as you venture forth on your Mixed Martial Arts Journey.
What did it mean to you to secure victory over Esteban Gid on your 1st step into the cage in England?
“First of all I was thinking wow, I’m gonna be fighting in one of the best promotions in England, so I was a little nervous. I was thinking of finishing him on the floor but remembered he had really good experience in Jiu-jitsu, so it took a little working out. It was a difficult fight, but I was really happy to get my first win in the UK. All my family and friends in the Dominican Republic were so happy for me, they really want me to focus and never stop. They know that I’m a warrior, that I’m here for a reason.”
I caught your bout, exceptional performance mate, I can see why everyone is proud of you.
When choosing the home of your fight camps, was joining Brad Pickett‘s GB Top Team 100 percent decided when venturing to the UK?
“Yes definitely, when searching for a gym here I checked them out and saw that Brad Pickett was the head coach. I thought I definitely had to join, because he can push me because of his experience in many organisations. He knows the many ways a fight can go, so I thought that GB Top Team was the best academy for me.”
He definitely has vast experience, he’s fought everywhere pretty much.
“Oh everywhere, yeah.”
Looking forward, you are set to take centre stage in the capital against undefeated London Shootfighter Bobby Chikavhu.
What do you make of Bobby in the build-up to your scheduled meeting?
“I think he’s very good at Jiu-jitsu as I’ve seen in his first fight, as well as having a good striking game. I’m also good in both areas, so I think this is going to be a really good fight for both of us. Everybody is going to enjoy this fight, I hope we both do really well, let’s go!!.”
It’s a great compliment to the matchmaking of Fightstar definitely, I’m looking forward to this one.
At Fightstar Championship 23, you will be joined by many of your training partners, as GB Top Team will be out in full force at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.
Other than your inclusion on the night, are there any of your teammates matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?
“They all have a good future ahead, I have a lot of respect for them. Everybody is training hard, they are great advice givers also. I haven’t known them for too long as I’ve only been in the UK for 4 months, but I’m looking forward to watching them all compete.”
As I’m sure they are looking forward to watching you also mate.
It’s been a great pleasure meeting you today Delffy, and I wish you all the best for the 19th.
“Thank you so much, I’m really happy we got to do this interview.”
Anytime mate.
Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?
“I’d like to give a big thank you to all of my training partners and coaches at GB Top Team, to Brad, Ashley, Barry and Bane. Everybody here has helped me a lot, I can see that they all love me here, we have such fun here. Also to my school in the Dominican Republic, they are always there cheering me on, they are with me all the time. To the fans of Fightstar, don’t close your eyes, our fight is going to be really intense.”
