The clash between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall has been one of the most talked-about fights in the UFC. Fans have waited for months, hoping to see the two heavyweights battle it out to unify the title. But things like Jon Jones’ injury and contract talks kept delaying the big news.

Now, it looks like the wait might be over soon. UFC legend Chael Sonnen recently revealed that the fight is finally set. According to him, the deal is done, and all that’s left is the date.

Sonnen Confirms Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall Fight Is Officially On

Speaking on the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast, Sonnen addressed speculation surrounding the fight, stating that while it hasn’t been officially announced, the agreement between both fighters and the UFC is already in place.

“No, (I’m not breaking the news that the fight is booked for International Fight Week), but I am confident enough to tell you that the fight is done, though,” Chael Sonnen said.

Sonnen further claimed that the bout has been agreed upon all the way down to the date. According to him, UFC authority is still deciding whether it will take place during International Fight Week or in New York later in the year.

“That fight has been agreed, all the way down to the date, that I do have the confidence to tell you. International Fight Week would make perfect sense, I just always thought they were gonna go back to New York,” Sonnen added.

The saga has now reached an epic level, with Tom Aspinall respectfully calling out Jon Jones, describing him as a “strange guy.” Aspinall was respectful, but not the MMA community, as they called the heavyweight champion a “duck” for skipping negotiations.

However, Sonnen believes Jones has not avoided the fight but rather has had fun playing with the media.

Sonnen then shut down rumors that Jones was ducking Aspinall, explaining that while Jones has played mind games in the media, he has never actually refused to fight.

“I’m telling you that this Jon Jones business, Jones will say a lot of things to the media, when he gets that phone call, ‘Here’s the guy you’re fighting, do you understand?’, and he will say, ‘Yes.’

“All the other reports are not true, Jon has come out and he has been a troll, he’s had some fun, he’s even tried to negotiate in the media, privately, he takes that phone call, it’s ‘Yes’… Jon Jones has not ducked this fight, I wish he did because I’d love to bury him, but he has not ducked Tom Aspinall.”

Sonnen’s comments make it clear that the Jones vs. Aspinall fight is no longer a maybe. Talks are moving forward, and we can finally expect the showdown to be close.
