Dillon Danis receives seven-month suspension for role in UFC 229 brawl

Bellator Welterweight and Conor McGregor teammate Dillon Danis has been handed a seven-month suspension by Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) for his involvement in the post-fight brawl that took place at UFC 229. Danis was also ordered to pay a $7500 for his role in the fracas. Danis was attacked by Khabib Nurmagomedov who infamously scaled the UFC octagon to go after the 25-year-old ju-jitsu prodigy. His punishment relates to an unsportsmanlike conduct charge. The NAC concluded Danis had to be restrained by security officers during the melee and made obscene gestures to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team. Danis received the lightest punishment to date, becoming the fifth person to be penalised for the brawl. Khabib Nurmagomedov faces a nine-month suspension and was fined $500,000. He can reduce his sentence to 6 months should he partake in a local anti-bullying campaign. Khabib however seems intent on sitting out. “The NSAC said to take part in a social campaign… the state of Nevada is a place where they allow drugs, prostitution and gambling. Let them work on themselves.” Nurmagomedov’s teammates Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov face the sternest punishment. Each were fined $25,000 and suspended for one year for their actions. Conor McGregor’s $25,000 fine was accompanied by a six-month suspension which is almost complete. Dillon Danis (1-0) made a successful MMA debut in April 2018. As of May 6, 2019, he can continue his promising career in MMA.
