Interview with Brandon “The Irish Hammer” Teague

I got to speak with Brandon “The Irish Hammer” Teague, again, and every conversation gets better. A 13x Gold Medalist, and a now BJJ practitioner, and a true champion in life. He shows more strength than the strongest man and tackling every obstacle while living with cerebral palsy. Kerry Stellar:  Brandon, how have you been? Brandon Teague:  Very good Kerry thank you. Kerry Stellar: Now that you are a few months into your BJJ career, how has the road been so far? Brandon Teague: The past few months have been life-changing for me all my life I’ve been disrespected and made fun of by everyone but I motivated myself to stay in the game and be a better version of myself. Kerry Stellar: Have you done any competitions, or do you plan to? Brandon Teague: I don’t know when my first competition will be but I wanna do the best I can and make myself proud win or lose I’ll always have the respect and love for my fellow competitors. Kerry Stellar: We’ve spoken about your life with having cerebral palsy, how has your life improved since training BJJ? Brandon Teague: I look up the stars and it’s like a fire burning inside me motivating me jiu-jitsu is like a guide to a next star and I wanna shine every day of my life Kerry Stellar: What is your favourite part of training? Brandon Teague: Takedowns and submissions. Kerry Stellar: Our interviews and everyone that you’ve had has been a very educational conversation… How do you feel being able to help people, and reaching the masses? Brandon Teague: Whenever I motivate people it brings a big smile on my face people always say how inspirational I am and I wanna motivate everyone for many years to come. Kerry Stellar: What do you plan on doing with your platform and MMA career? Brandon Teague: I hope to compete in many tournaments and my goal in MMA is to be a champion it may take a few bumps on the way but with blood sweat and tears I wanna prove all my Demons dead wrong Kerry Stellar: If you’d like to take the time to thank some people, your training team, family… The time is yours. Brandon “The Irish Hammer” Teague: An inspiring young man, with dreams, and goals of being an MMA champion

Recently I got to speak with Brandon “The Irish Hammer” Teague. An inspiring young man, with dreams, and goals of being an MMA champion, Teague is determined to make that happen. Kerry Stellar: Brandon, thank you for taking the time to speak with me!! I know your story, and journey, most people don’t. Brandon tells everyone a little about yourself… Brandon Teague: My name is Brandon Teague and I was born with cerebral palsy.  I’m a future MMA fighter, a Special Olympics athlete, and deputy sheriff as well. Kerry Stellar: When did you decide that you wanted to become a mixed martial artist? Brandon Teague: Since I was 7 years old I wanted to be a fighter. The first fight I watched, Forrest Griffin vs Stephen Bonnar TUF season 1 finale it changed my life. Kerry Stellar: What styles of fighting do you currently do? Brandon Teague: Boxing. Kerry Stellar: You have many medals and accolades tell us about them? Brandon Teague: I compete in 100-meter dash slalom and I have the support of you, my friends, and my family.  It wouldn’t be possible without the support, I love reaching new levels. Kerry Stellar: Who are some of the fighters you look up to? Brandon Teague: Michael Chandler, Royce Gracie, Chuck Lidell, Jessica Eye, MVP, GSP, Matt Hughes, Forrest Griffin, and Frank Mir. Kerry Stellar: Do you think there should be an organization or division for athletes with disabilities? Brandon Teague: Absolutely. Kerry Stellar: What is it like being a deputy sheriff? Brandon Teague: It’s a fun roller coaster, I love patrolling, and getting the bad guys off the streets. It’s an adrenaline rush. Kerry Stellar: Where does your name come from? Brandon Teague: My name came from my ancestors that came to America all the way from Ireland, and I came up with the nickname “The Irish Hammer” because my hands hit hard like a hammer hitting a nail. Kerry Stellar: What would you like the world to know about Brandon “The Irish Hammer” Teague?
