UFC returns to London in 2017

After months of speculation, UFC today announced its much anticipated return to London, England. The event will take place at The O2 in London on Saturday, March 18, 2017. Following a hugely successful event in February 2016 – UFC FIGHT NIGHT: SILVA vs. BISPING, which sold out in just 27 minutes – the organisation has confirmed that it will return to the English capital for a second consecutive year. No fewer than five UFC events have been hosted in Europe this year, with a sixth set to take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 19. Two of those six events took place in the UK, as UFC’s fan base continues to grow at a phenomenal rate in the region. UFC FIGHT NIGHT LONDON will kick start the organisation’s 2017 European events calendar, with more events set to be announced in the coming months. The growing popularity of mixed martial arts in the UK is something which has undoubtedly been fuelled by the success of athletes such as Michael “The Count” Bisping, a pioneer of MMA in the UK who this year became Britain’s very first UFC world champion. As the popuarity of the sport in Britian continues to grow, so too does the demand from fans for live events. James Elliott, Vice President and General Manager of UFC EMEA, said, “The UK, and in particular London, is an incredibly important market for us. Time and time again we return to the UK and we are blown away by the enthusiasm and support from the fans. “Never has there been a better time for mixed martial arts in this region. The UK has its first ever world champion and we have an extremely exciting pool of talented young British athletes looking to make names for themselves on the international stage. What better way to kick off 2017 than with a return to The O2 in London?” Tickets for UFC FIGHT NIGHT LONDON will go on general sale on Friday, January 27 via AXS and Ticketmaster. Fight Club members will get the opportunity to purchase their tickets early on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. and UFC newsletter subscribers on Thursday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. In order to avoid disappointment, fans are encouraged to register interest for the event visit ufc.com/London.

Cage Warriors FC 75 opening bouts confirmed in London

CWFC 75 opening bouts confirmed CWFC Officials have released the opening bouts for their eagerly anticipated April 15th event which will take place at the Camden Centre, London. This event will be the first Cage Warriors show since former CEO Graham Boylan purchased the intellectual property of the brand in June of last year.  Since that announcement Boylan has spent  time restructuring the organisation so that it can continue to give European Mixed Martial Arts the solid platform it deserves in the same way as it did between 2010 to 2014. More details including game changing television and streaming deals will follow in the coming weeks, however in the meantime CWFC fans will be pleased to know several bouts have already been agreed which will include a high profile featherweight clash between the talented Liverpool based submission specialist Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett (9-1 MMA | 4-1 CWFC) and the experienced LondonerAshleigh Grimshaw (16-9-1-2nc MMA | 2-1 CWFC). Pimblett will return to the cage in April for the first time in nearly ten months and will look to extend his current five fight win streak which has seen him finish the previously unbeaten Kevin Petshi, the well traveled Spanish veteran Miguel Haro and fellow domestic prospect Stephen Martininside two rounds.  Known for his brash, confident attitude and highlight reel finishes the 21 year old has impressed since his days on the amateur circuit in his mid-teens and won’t be phased by his opponent when they meet next month. The same can be said for Grimshaw who has 13 years experience in the paid ranks and has 15 of his 16 career wins inside the distance.  The Team Titan fighter has fought a “who’s who” of the domestic 145 lbs division and brings with him a versatile and dangerous all-round game which has previously seen him stop the likes of Dave Lee, Vaughan Lee and Paul Reed inside the distance during his career. Also agreed is a Light-heavyweight bout featuring the unbeaten MMA Clinic fighter Darren “The Dentist” Stewart (5-0 MMA | 2-0 CWFC) andJames Hurrell (7-4 MMA | 1-1 CWFC), who makes his return to the cage after being inactive since his exciting rear-naked choke win over Carl Kinslow at CWFC 74 in November 2014. With all seven career victories coming inside the distance (including 6 TKO’s), Hurrell will be more than able to match Stewart’s own stoppage power which has seen him rack-up three TKO wins so far in his pro career.  After going 3-0 during 2015 which included his first win over a foreign opponent, “The Dentist” will look to start his 2016 campaign by claiming a top domestic scalp in the form of the 6’6” Hurrell when they meet on April 15th. A women’s bout will also take place on the card as the unbeaten Danish striker Anna “Panda” Elmose (3-0 MMA | 1-0 CWFC) will meet fellow stand-up practitioner Stephanie Page (2-1) in a 135 lbs match-up. Elmose has been on a tear ever since her successful amateur debut at CWFC 66 in Copenhagen in March 2014. Since turning professional she has stopped all three of her opponents, including a 19 round second demolition of Emma Delaney at CWFC 74 and a spectacular second round stoppage of Mara Romero Borella last May which went viral.   However Page brings with her considerable stand-up experience having been a former Muay Thai and Kickboxing champion. Other bouts which can be released at this time see the talented Team Titan standout Alfie Davis (4-1) make his CWFC debut again Team Force’s Terry Doyle (3-1) in a Lightweight bout. Opening the pro card will be a featherweight bout between Rob Scott and Oliver Battell as both men look for their first professional win. More bouts including the evening’s main event are still to be announced and will follow in the coming weeks along with ticket, broadcasting and other fight card details as the CWFC team prepare to deliver another high quality event next month in the heart of London’s Kings Cross district. UK Fighters Brad ‘One Punch’ Pickett & Davey ‘Dangerous’ Grant added to the UFC London card

BRITISH FIGHTERS ADDED TO UFC® LONDON CARD  UFC FIGHT NIGHT® LONDON takes place on February 27, 2016 at the O2 Arena London, UK – UFC® – the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) organisation – today announced two more bouts set to feature on theUFC FIGHT NIGHT® LONDON card. UFC FIGHT NIGHT® LONDON marks UFC’s return to England after almost two years’ absence. Tickets to the event, which is set to take place at London’s O2 Arena on February 27, sold out in just 27 minutes, demonstrating the overwhelming demand from fans across the UK for live UFC action. Fan favourite and veteran of the sport Brad “One Punch” Pickett (25-11-0, fighting out of London, England) will compete in front of his home crowd, as he takes on Mexican Henry “Bure” Briones (19-5-1, fighting out of San Diego, CA, USA). East Londoner Pickett was a keen soccer player in his youth and used to box to keep fit. He later made the decision to switch to MMA in order to experiment with a variety of disciplines, and soon found a natural talent for the martial arts. Pickett has been competing in the UFC since 2011 and, in that time, has picked up no less than five Fight of the Night bonuses. In March 2014 Pickett secured an unforgettable win over Irishman Neil Seery in front of home fans at the O2 Arena. The Englishman will undoubtedly be looking to replicate that success come February 2016.  Briones, meanwhile, is a veteran of the UFC’s reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter® and joins an impressive crop of talent emerging from Latin America, looking to make their mark. “Bure” was a dedicated hockey player before he made the decision to step into an MMA gym in his hometown of Tijuana, Mexico in 2006. Britain’s Davey “Dangerous” Grant (8-2-0, fighting out of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England) will also step out in front of home fans on February 27, as he goes toe-to-toe with Ecuador’s Marlon “Chito” Vera (7-2-1, fighting out of Chone, Ecuador), who is also looking to make a name for himself in the bantamweight division. Grant first began training in MMA as a way to build up his fitness but, after progressing through his teenage years, he made a bid for a career in the sport.  In 2013, Grant was a standout on The Ultimate Fighter®, where he competed under the direction of coach and former women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey. Grant was due to fight at UFC FIGHT NIGHT® LONDON in 2013 but was forced to withdraw just days before the fight after sustaining an injury. Fans have been clamoring for the Englishman to return to the Octagon ever since. Grant faces a young contender in Vera who, at the age of 23, has two UFC bouts under his belt including a win against Roman Salazar, which earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. “Chito” grew up in Ecuador and began training in MMA at 16, with one goal – to fight in the UFC. Also set to compete at UFC FIGHT NIGHT® LONDON are British fighters Michael “The Count” Bisping, who takes on Holland’s Gegard Mousasi, Birmingham’s Tom Breese, who faces Japan’s Keita Nakamura, and Mike Wilkinson who meets Makwan Amirkhani.
