Neil Magny replaces Geoff Neal In Fight Vs Ian Garry

In an unexpected turn of events, the upcoming UFC 292 card on August 19th just got a whole lot more intriguing! The Irish sensation, Ian Garry, is keeping his spot under the spotlight as he prepares to lock horns with the seasoned warrior, Neil Magny. The latter, ever the gallant, has thrown his hat in the ring on short notice, replacing the unfortunate Geoff Neal, who was forced to bow out due to an injury setback. Garry, a 25-year-old juggernaut, has been a force to be reckoned with, boasting an immaculate record of 12 victories on the trot. Interestingly, he had his sights initially locked on the battle-hardened Neil Magny, 11 years his senior at 36, before shifting gears and committing to the showdown with Neal. Fate, however, had other plans. The main attraction of UFC 292 features a bantamweight title clash that promises fireworks: Aljamain Sterling defends his championship belt against the dynamic Sean O’Malley. But let’s not overlook the seismic showdown brewing between Garry and Magny. Neil Magny, a battle-scarred warrior with an impressive 28 triumphs out of 38 encounters, poses a colossal challenge to Garry. The American bruiser holds an authoritative victory over none other than Geoff Neal, and his hit list reads like a who’s who of top-tier talent: Kelvin Gastelum, Robbie Lawler, and Carlos Condit. As the dust settles, consider this—the spotlight shines not only on Garry, who steps into his sixth UFC bout, but also on Magny, who’s poised to make his 31st appearance in the unforgiving octagon. The stakes are sky-high, the tension palpable, and fight fans are in for a barnburner of a showdown come August 19th. The MMA cosmos are about to witness an electrifying collision of skill, will, and unyielding determination!

Leon Edwards No Longer Fighting On UFC fight Island

Dana White has confirmed that Leon Edwards will no longer fight on UFC Fight Island and that UFC fight night will now be headlined by a welterweight affair between Neil Magny and Michael Chiesa. Edwards was supposed to be fighting against Khamzat Chimaev on 19th December in Las Vegas but it was rebooked for January 20th after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19. Now  Chimaev has had COVID-19 and not fully recovered and the fight will be rebooked again. White told The Schmo in an interview “He won’t. What we’re doing is we’re going to push that fight back. I just saw that Ali (Abdelaziz) came out today and said that he (Chimaev) had COVID. I don’t know why he wasn’t telling people that, but for some reason, he did not want people to know that he had COVID.”  White continued, “The doctor told him when he went back to the gym. I guess he was having problems with his lungs…. So they told him to take some more time off and not start training till like early January. So we’re going to push that fight back and we’re going to do Magny vs Chiesa.”

Neil Magny pledges to donate $15,000 of his fight purse

Neil Magny (20-7-0) was due to face Gunnar Nelson in Liverpool UFC Fight Night, 27th May 2018.  However, a knee injury to Nelson ended this contest and left Magny in doubt whether he would be able to fight May 27th. Magny last competed in December with a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Condit.  Magny went to social media to express his sympathy to Nelson.  But also to tell his fans he would be continuing to train for the Liverpool card.  Asking the UFC to find him a new opponent. On May 10th Magny once again took to his social media. This time announcing that if the UFC where able to find him an opponent, he would donate $15,000 of his bout money to Presley Mae.  The next question for people reading this; who is Presley Mae? In May last year, Presley  Mae was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy.  A rare, recessive and incredibly scary genetic disease.  Presley who was born on February 3rd, 2017 has had to endure a lot in her short life.  Her family need to raise money for numerous reasons to keep Presley alive and comfortable.   The number 9 ranked Welterweight has vowed to show his class and help Presley and her family in their time of need. The UFC finally found Magny a new opponent on May 15th.  In UFC debutant British welterweight fighter Craig “Thundercat” White.   White has been under the Cage Warriors banner since early 2017.  Currently on a four-fight winning streak with a professional record of 14-7.  In White’s 14 wins, he has never been to judges scorecards.  With 5 KO’s/ TKOs and 9 submission victories on his CV.   White now has a major opportunity to create an upset in the UFC against one of the top ten guys in the division. Magny has shown his class over the last few weeks.  Remaining professional throughout this process and accepting the fight on 12 days notice with a new opponent.  Hopefully, his gracious donation to Presley Mae will help the family out massively and raise awareness around spinal muscular atrophy. Erick Silva Embarrassed Of His Performance Against Neil Magny

Erick Silvas chance to go on a 3-fight win streak came to an end at UFC Fight Night 74 as he came up short in a decision against Neil Magny in the co-main event. Silva took on his social media to apologize to fans after being critical of his performance after a split decision loss and also hinted that he may have been dealing with an injury he suffered before the fight. “Honestly, I didn’t like my performance,” Silva posted on his Instagram. “I was defeated. I’m embarrassed with my performance, my body. I know I’m way more than this Erick that fought last night. My main mistake was having insisted on fighting, and put not only my head at stake but also my coaches’ and doctors’ who did the best they could to at least get me to the fight. It wasn’t a good month for me, but no one has to know, it’s no one’s problem. I had a ridiculous performance and deserved to lose. I paid the price for it. The only thing left for me is to guarantee that the next time I step inside that Octagon again I will be 100 percent physically, no injuries, and with a full training camp,” he wrote. “Otherwise, I’ll do like everyone does, and cancel the fight.” Silva is now a relatively unimpressive 6-5 during his UFC career which doesn’t live up to the hype he was given as a huge prospect with a bright future ahead of him. He’ll certainly need to go on a win streak if he’s to ever live up to those expectations.
