Every son quotes his father, in words and deeds feat Kevin “Baby Slice” Ferguson Jr
Warriors have come into the cage and fought for what they believe in, fought for money and titles. But what sticks out for me is a fighter that just gets his/her kicks out of just having the love of the fight. To quote the man himself “with these hands I can part the sea, with these hands I feed the family.” No one is a finer example of having this trait than the late great Kimbo Slice. Took something he loved and made a life for himself and his family. The apple has not fallen far from the tree it seems, Kevin “Baby Slice” Ferguson graced the cage of Bellator. On the main card of Bellator 179 at Wembley Arena, and needed less than four minutes to put opponent D.J. Griffin away with sublime ground and pound, forcing the ref to put a stop to the bout. In an interview before 179, we caught a glimpse of just how much of Kimbo’ s spirit/ love shone through baby slices fists and heart, giving us an insight into how his father affected his life. “I learned about the hard work you have to put in and the sacrifices you have to make in order to be successful in life. He taught me that you sometimes have to stand your ground. And he taught me that you have to give respect to get respect,” he said. “He raised me, y’know.” With life lessons came to fight lessons, of course. “He also taught me how to bob and weave, the importance of head movement, and how to get out of punches. I didn’t train as much with him as sometimes I was in school but I went along to a lot of his fights and loved to watch him,” said Ferguson. With role models like that he has been taught some lessons that might just see him follow in his farthers footsteps. To take titles at Bellator is still yet to be seen, but seen I’m sure it will be. The love of the fight and sport radiates from the very core. And I for one am looking forward to seeing his acent to greatness. Wether it was morning evening noon or night I hope you’ve enjoyed this article.
