Aggressive Combat Championships 17 at The Westchester County Center 11-11-17 Recap…
Oh what a night, Aggressive Combat Championships 17 did not disappoint. An evening full of action packed amateur fights, on a professional level. Only one fighter missed weight, he and his opponent weren’t able to compete, but with ACC 18 coming April 7th 2018, the fighter that did make-weight will get his chance.
The evening started off with a bang, the under card was as amazing as the main card, and boy did the first fight deliver.
Manny Martinez of Mantra MMA (coach Edmar Dos Anjos) defeated Mark Ayers of Muay Thai Nation (coach Greg Melia), in a hard-fought battle where either one of them could have taken home the W.
Up and comer Jake Burgos of Tiger Schulmans MMA (coach Hurricane Shane Burgos), is definitely following in his older brother Shane’s footsteps. With a spectacular win over Lucas Hearjt of High Voltage, Jake is on the road to greatness. Getting his start on NYs professional amateur mixed martial arts promotion, who’s had a plethora of fighters evolve into professional mixed martial arts.
Another bout on the under card that had me cheering while trying to snap some pictures… Jennifer Dugwen of Renzo Gracie, defeated Anastasia Bruce of Kai Next Level mixed martial arts. This was a back and forth battle that both women should be proud of. Jennifer, an Olympic bronze medalist showed her hands are no joke, however Anastasia showed heart and a great defensive game, in the end Jennifer Dugwen was able to take home another win.
Probably one of my favorite teams of the evening Muay Thai Nation, and ECU, I cannot express how awesome these teams were, and have to tip my hat to their coaches on a job well done.
Onto the main card, I will only highlight a few fights as there was so many high level fights on this card.
Erin Blanchfeild, a very talented, very hungry, young mixed martial artist, won the EBI (Eddie Bravo Invitational) this summer. She did what anyone who knows of Erin thought she would. A very game, talented and oh so cute, Destiny “The Cage Cutie” Quinones, who took this fight on about two weeks notice, lost via Arm Bar in the first round. If you do not know the name Erin Blanchfeild you will, she is going to go pro within the next few months (maybe even sooner). You won’t get to see Destiny in an amateur fight, she got her pro debut this January, and we’ll have all of the coverage on that.
Edwin Solis of the Jungel Gym etched out a tough win against Danny Maldonado, to win ACC Flyweight championship. It was an amazing fight by both men, and I wouldn’t have wanted to be the judge scoring that battle.
Rodriguez vs Rodriguez our main event of the evening was epic to say the least. Daniel Rodriguez of the Jungle Gym gave Carlos Rodriguez of MCF a serious run for his money. This was a fight that you would see on a Bellator or a PFL, a battle for bragging rights in the Bronx the crowd was on fire chanting their (yes they have the same nickname) flakka, and they could feel it. In the end Daniel defeated Carlos via Arm Bar in the third round.
This whole event from top to bottom was one I will never forget and cannot wait for April 7 2018.
