Leading mixed martial arts promotion Bellator MMA today revealed that a welterweight showdown will headline its return to London on Saturday, November 23 at The SSE Arena, Wembley. The Bellator cage touches back down in the English capital with a card which is already shaping up to be one of the most stacked in this year’s European Series.
An exciting main card will conclude with what is expected to be an explosive clash at 170 lbs. between London Shootfighters star Michael “Venom” Page (15-1) and USA’s Derek Anderson (16-3, 1NC).
The event represents a glorious homecoming for Page, who won over a passionate Irish crowd last month by beating Richard Kiely via a spectacular flying knee in the co-main event at Bellator Dublin. The comprehensive win extended the Londoner’s impressive record to 15 wins from 16 professional MMA bouts and saw him return to the win column having suffered his first career defeat, to Douglas Lima, in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix in May. He will be hoping to feed off the energy of the Wembley crowd as he steps out on home turf for the first time in 18 months.
Standing opposite him in the cage will be San Diego native Anderson, who himself is fresh off a convincing win, putting in a dominant performance at Bellator 229 last weekend to defeat Guilherme “Bomba” Vasconcelos via a unanimous decision. Anderson has one more career win to his name than Page and another victory would give him his longest winning streak since May 2014. Anderson is a versatile fighter, securing a practically even spread of wins via KO/TKO, submission and decision throughout his 20-fight career. Derek “The Barbaric” will be planning to use that unpredictability to pose Page a few questions on enemy territory.
Tickets to Bellator London are on sale and can be purchased online from axs.com/uk and Bellator.com.
The event marks the sixth Bellator European Series event of 2019 and will air LIVE at 10 p.m. GMT on Channel 5 in the UK. In the U.S., the event will be streamed live on the Bellator Mobile App at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT.
Joining Page and Anderson on the main card are Fabian Edwards and Mike Shipman, who go head-to-head in a middleweight grudge match and Terry Brazier, who faces newcomer Søren Bak at lightweight.
Bellator also announced a series of preliminary bouts earlier this month, including Kent Kauppinen vs. Andy Manzolo, George Tokkos vs. Kevin Fryer and current Bellator Kickboxing flyweight champion Denise Kielholtz vs. Sabriye Sengul.
With a sell-out crowd expected on the night, Bellator London promises to be an unforgettable night of MMA action for fans.
Further bout announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
