There is nothing quite like a rousing underdog story to pull at the heartstrings of an MMA fan. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will be introduced to a bulldog of the Northeastern MMA scene ready to show CES MMA that his bark and bite are more than up for the challenge and prove to everyone that nice guys can finish first at CES MMA 60 on January 24 with the CES MMA Flyweight title wrapped securely around his waist. A professional since February 2011 and representing Underdog Mixed Martial Arts, Johnny Lopez owns a 12-4 record in 16 bouts as a professional comprised of six submissions and six decisions. Lopez has fought for CES MMA and Bellator MMA and numerous regional promotions throughout the northeastern region of the United States. Out of Lopez’s 12 wins as a professional, he has gone on to earn a finish in six of them.
He submitted Jon Marchterre in the first round at Reality Fighting. Lopez also tapped out his next two opponents in Josh Baker and John O’ Brien. Then, he faced Marvin Maldonado and went on to defeat him via unanimous decision. Lopez also defeated Manny Millan via unanimous decision. He submitted his next three opponents that included wins over Matt Almy and Timothy Wheeler. For his second appearance with Bellator MMA at Bellator 185 Lopez defeated Billy Giovanella for the second time via unanimous decision. He also defeated Joshua Ricci via unanimous decision at CES MMA 53. Lopez defeated Johnny Campbell via unanimous decision at Reality Fighting new year’s bash 3. At Bellator 232 he faced Dan Cormier and went on to defeat him via unanimous decision to pick up the sixth decision victory of his professional career.
