James Gallagher out of Bellator Dublin Main Event

James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher (10-1) has withdrawn from his main event bout with Cal Ellenor (8-2) due to an undisclosed injury.

The February 22nd event will now be headlined by SBG Charlestown’s Featherweight Leah’ The Curse’ McCourt versus Germany’s Judith Ruis.

This is the second time a bout between Gallagher and Ellenor has fallen through, with the first bout being cancelled due to Ellenor’s inability to gain medical clearance; however, this issue had been resolved by the athletic commission.

Gallagher’s last bout was against Roman Salazar (13-9-1), which resulted in a quick night for the Strabane native after he submitted Salazar after only 35 seconds of their match. In the same night, McCourt also submitted her opponent Kerry Hughes (3-4) via rear-naked choke.

It’s unclear at this moment what turnaround The Strabanimal is looking at. After his damaging loss to Ricky Bandejas (12-3), Gallagher racked up three convincing wins, consisting of 2 first-round submissions and a unanimous decision. The Stabanimal won’t be relishing more time away from the sport as his journey to gold continues.

Dublin’s 3Arena will play host to Bellator Dublin on 22nd February, and you can watch it live on Channel 5 in the UK.
