Fantasy Fight Predictions: Chuck Liddell vs. Yoel Romero

Hi everyone, hope your all well and staying safe during this pandemic. I thought while there are no UFC events for the foreseeable future I have decided to start an article mini-series where I will take past or present UFC fighters and give a background on them and then predict who would win their fight if both fighters were in their prime. The first fantasy fight I am going to do is Chuck Liddell vs Yoel Romero hope you enjoy.

The Iceman Chuck Liddell is a former UFC Lightheavyweight Champion. Liddell has an impressive victory outside the UFC against Alastair Overeem in the PRIDE promotion. Liddell has some outstanding victories against very accomplished fighters in the UFC over the likes of Vernon White, Randy Couture twice and Tito Ortiz twice. Chuck had multiple stints in the UFC and during the periods he was competing in the UFC he was fighting under the PRIDE promotion. After the Iceman’s 4th UFC Lightheavyweight title defence against Tito Ortiz, he then went on to lose his next two fights dropping the title to Rampage Jackson. Then after a 2 fight losing streak Chuck went on to a unanimous decision victory against Wanderlei Silva. But after that fight, he went on to lose 3 straight fights and that was the end of his UFC career. Chuck has probably one of the most dangerous right hands the UFC with his explosive power you are never safe in a fight with Liddell even if you are having the upper hand in the fight.

Now onto the opponent Yoel ‘The Soldier of God’ Romero. Despite his age right now Yoel is still one of the most feared fighters on the roster. Romero has had some highlight-reel knockouts against the likes of Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold. Despite being one of the most feared fighters the UFC has seen his recent record does not show it with 3 straight losses against Robert Whittaker, Paulo Costa and current UFC champion Israel Adesanya. The fight with Chuck would have taken place at 205 pounds and Romero would have had no trouble making that weight.

So if both fighters were in their prime I believe Chuck Liddell would ko Yoel in the first round. I think this because of how much a good fighter Yoel is he isn’t very difficult to hit and with Liddell’s fighting ability I believe he would catch him with a swift right hand and end the fight early.

I’d like to say thanks for reading hope you enjoyed and the next fantasy fight prediction article will not be long.
