One-To-Watch: Sodiq Yusuff

Fresh from his victory over the experienced Andre Fili, back at UFC 246, Sodiq Yusuff is well worth the watch this year.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Yusuff is currently undefeated in the UFC.  With a record of 11:1, we first saw Yusuff on our screens during the DWCS (Dana White’s Contender Series). He beat Mike Davis via a unanimous decision and was then awarded a professional contract with the company.

Since then, he’s been a breath of fresh air, beating everyone who’s been put in front of him. Considered as one of the most exciting prospects at 145 pounds, Yusuff seems to gain more attention every time he steps inside the octagon.

Predominately known for his striking, Sodiq “Super” Yusuff is only 26, and he is already in contention to face a top-ten fighter following his recent victory over Fili.

A lot of fighters seem to crumble, under the pressure, but it looks as if Yusuff is relishing the attention.

In March 2019, the UFC had its first-ever African champion, in Kamaru Usman. Fellow Nigerian-born, Israel Adesanya went on to win the middleweight belt seven months later. This shows that the UFC has some talented African fighters within their ranks, and Yusuff is certainly one as well.

His speed, his power, and his technique have certainly made him one to watch over recent months. The potential is there with Yusuff, and he has deserved the plaudits from many across the MMA community.

Currently ranked 13th in the featherweight division, 2020 could be a big year for the Nigerian. Sodiq Yusuff is not one to be overlooked upon as he is a real problem for the 145-pound division.

The UFC is returning this weekend, with a stacked card. Dana White has said that he is wanting to get the UFC rolling again. So, hopefully, it won’t be long before we see the return of Sodiq Yusuff.

Who would you like to see Sodiq Yusuff fight next? Does he deserve a top-ten contender next?
