Across the Pond Profile: UFC fighter Daniel Rodriguez

Short notice opportunities will sometimes bring out the best in UFC debutants. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet a tapout artisan looking to continue his submission master class and earn top marks once again as he carries the flag being one of the number one newcomers to the UFC ranks at welterweight. A professional mixed martial artist since June 2015 and representing 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, Daniel Rodriguez owns a 10-1 professional record in 11 bouts comprised of six knockouts, four submissions, and one decision. Rodriguez appeared on week six during the third season of Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in 2019 and has also fought for Combate Americas and Bellator MMA. He has gone on to finish 10 of his 11 victories as a pro-MMA fighter and has gone the distance just once in his career thus far.

In his MMA debut at KOTC Sanctioned, he submitted Christopher Gates via armbar in the first round. Rodriguez also tapped out Hector Saldana in round one via arm-triangle choke. He defeated his next two opponents via TKO in Joel Champion and Christian Gonzalez.  Then at CXF 11 Alpha Dog, Rodriguez defeated Justin Baesman via TKO in the second round. He submitted Alex Velasco via rear-naked choke in round three. At Combate Americas Road to Copa Combate Rodriguez defeated Ozzie Alvarez via TKO in the third round. He knocked out Ivan Castillo in round three at Combate 31 Mexico Versus USA. In episode six of season three of DWTNCS Rodriguez defeated Rico Farrington via unanimous decision to pick up his first and only decision win as a professional so far. He defeated Quinton Mcottrell via TKO in the second round.

In his debut fight for the UFC at UFC On ESPN Plus 25, Rodriguez faced Tim Means and submitted him in the second round to capture the fourth submission victory of his professional career along with his first UFC win. With 10 finishes in 11 fights, this destructive freight train has left many a foe choking on a cloud of billowing smoke!
