Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori are set to fight for the middleweight strap in June Dana White has confirmed to Brett Okamoto of ESPN. Although no contracts have been officially signed, a verbal agreement has been reached.
Robert Whittaker was perhaps expected to challenge for the title next, however the June date falls just too soon for him as he is now quarantining back in Australia after his main event win over Kelvin Gastelum. Dana did also confirm that the Reaper will face the winner of this bout at a later date.
Vettori himself is fresh off a victory against Kevin Holland that marked his 5th win in a row since his last loss against champion Israel Adesanya.
Adesanya won the first the first meeting between this pair by split decision back in 2018. Vettori has for sure given the champion his toughest fight yet at 185lbs.
It is expected that this will stand as the main event at 263, joining a card that already hosts a flyweight title rematch between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno after they fought to a majority draw at UFC 256.
