Michael Page: I need to put myself to the test in the UFC

Page (19-1) has been a Bellator fighter for almost a decade and has only lost once in that time, against 170-pound champion Douglas Lima. ‘Venom’ is on a five-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming against Derek Anderson at Bellator 258 earlier this month.

Page recently discussed his ambitions to sign with the UFC in the future on the Believe You Me podcast.

“I have a lot of fun with Bellator,” Page said, “I appreciate where I’m at and my success so far, but I definitely feel like I need to touch the UFC at some point and just test myself there as well. There are some amazing fights to be made over there, so I absolutely think in the future—I don’t know when—I’m contracted to be in Bellator, and I have some ambitions to reach there,” he says.

Page, who has been chastised for fighting against subpar competition in Bellator, said that he began MMA with the hopes of signing with the UFC. If the Brazilian defeats undefeated Yaroslav Amosov next month, the 34-year-old will certainly earn another go at Lima’s welterweight belt.

If I’m being honest, when I first started, the only reason I [got into MMA] was to go to the UFC,” Page said. “That’s the biggest thing and it’s obviously still one of the biggest [promotions].

“There’s a lot of shows popping up. But in general—especially when I was started—anybody that was getting into MMA, their goal was to get to the UFC. The majority of people are still the same.
