Women’s flyweight champion Valentina “The Bullet” Shevchenko is expected back in action later in September as she is set to face rising contender and #3 ranked women’s flyweight Lauren Murphy in one of the most stacked and anticipated cards of the year.
The champ last fought in April where she dismantled former champion Jessica Andrade with a barrage of elbows earning herself a 2nd round TKO as well as expanding her win streak to 7. Valentina has been perfect since her return to the flyweight division and has established herself as one of the most feared strikers and dominant champions in the weight class, history beating names like Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Liz Carmouche, Katlyn Chookagian.
As for the challenger Lauren Murphy, she has been on a 5 fight win streak beating the likes of Joanne Calderwood, Roxanne Modafferi, and Andrea Lee. A veteran of 19 MMA fights (11 in the UFC) this is by far the biggest opportunity as well as the best competition she has ever faced. The former TUF alumn was the Invicta bantamweight champion in 2013 and is looking to get the UFC gold wrapped around her waist while possibly scoring one of the biggest upsets in women’s MMA.
UFC 266 is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena on September 25. While the PPV card is still taking shape it will be headlined by a title fight between two of the most exciting featherweights in the world as Alexander Volkanovski defends his belt against top contender Brian Ortega, it is said the card will also feature the return and rematch of fan favourites Nick Diaz vs Robbie Lawler.
