UFC 272 has quickly grown as one of the most anticipated cards of the year and rightly so. The rivalry and bad blood between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington has grabbed the attention of all MMA fans. But at UFC 272 (wait for the breakdown the week of) there are several fights that deserve some time under the spotlight.

It’s been 2 years since we last saw RDA in action. The former lightweight champ is making his return to the octagon as he faces rising contender Rafael Fiziev (11-1) in the co-main event, in what’s being dubbed “the battle of the Rafaels”. RDA last fought and beat Paul Felder in his return to lightweight after fighting in the welterweight division.

While the experiment at WW was not necessarily a success, it was not a failure either. RDA famously won his LW title from Anthony Pettis, and eventually moved up a weight class in 2017, during his time at 170 RDA scored wins over names like Robbie Lawler, Neil Magney and Kevin Lee. Meanwhile, his losses were nothing to scoff at as he lost to fighters like Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, Leon Edwards and Michael Chiesa. At 5ft 8 RDA is built more for the lightweight division and has suffered a string of unfortunate events that have led to his 2-year hiatus after signing a 6 fight contract with the UFC.

On March 5th RDA faces rising contender and 5 fight win streak lightweight Rafael Fiziev. This fight is a tall task as Fiziev has proven that the hype is real as he is looking unstoppable since suffering his first career loss in his UFC debut. It will be interesting to see how the former champ does in his comeback fight. Will he have the same energy and skill that took him to the top once? After all, he did reinvent himself once when fighting at 145 and moving to 155. Or will we see the end in the career of a former champ?
