Callum ‘Hollywood’ Mather 1-1-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Lightweight division, representing Salford MMA. He has competed for Full Contact Contender and is making his debut for Preston based organisation UKFC on May 14th.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Callum. Also to congratulate you on your recent fight announcement for the UKFC19 Card.
I hope training camp has been going well in the build-up to your scheduled return to the cage on May 14th?
“Yeah, training camp has been going well, no injuries as of yet so feeling positive about the bout.”
The last time we saw you in action was back in March at FCC 28. Taking on and defeating Trent Simm via split decision. Now the dust has settled and you’ve had time to reflect on your victory, what did you take from that night at the Bolton Arena?
“Reflecting on that night at FCC 28, I’m very happy with the fact I got to experience what it’s like to be in a war and to have my chin tested by a heavy hitter. To come through and get the victory I’m over the moon with it and looking to carry on the momentum throughout the year.”
Many Phenomenal athletes past and present have taken centre stage in the iconic Union Jack cage of the UKFC. How did you feel when receiving the call to take your 1st walk down to the cage for the Preston based organisation?
“I felt great about receiving the call to fight at UKFC. This year is all about activity for me, so when I got the call to fight I jumped at the opportunity.”
Across the cage at UKFC19 will be Reps MMA’s, Shaun McCabe. While sharpening your proverbial tools for May 14th at Salford MMA, have you managed to do anything in the way of research on Shaun in the build-up to your meeting?
“In terms of looking up Shaun, I’ve reviewed some footage of a bout from 4 years ago but haven’t relied too heavily on the fact that it’ll be the same fighter I come up against on the day. 4 years is a long time and a lot can happen, all that I’ve focused on is making sure I’m the best version of myself come May 14th.”
Without giving too much away what steps have you been taking to make sure you walk out of the Riva Showbar with another digit on your win record?
“I’ve just been sticking to camp, making sure I work on any weaknesses in my game, so that when the time comes I’ll be able to put on a great performance.”
Many bouts are being announced daily for what’s shaping up to be a phenomenal night in Preston. Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?
“I’m looking forward to seeing Reid Rogers vs Macaulay Donnelly, I think it’ll be a great match for the featherweight division.”
Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?
“No particular shout-outs, just look out for another fight of the night performance.”
Tickets are available now so get in contact and secure your place at what’s set to be a sold-out return to the Riva Showbar in Preston. Alternatively, the event will be streamed live on PPV via MMA TV
