Sydney Omar Dacres – “This card is crazy!”

Sydney Omar Dacres 1-1-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Middleweight division, representing Diesel Gym. He has competed for Contenders LTD and is due to make his debut for Fightstar Championship on July 15th.

I’d like to kick things off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me Sydney, also to congratulate you on your recently announced inclusion to the Fightstar Championship 22 card.

“Always got time for you Aaron! Thank you for taking the time to interview me again, really appreciate it.”

I hope training has been going well in the the build-up to your return to the cage, with it being back to back from your outing at Road to Contenders, it must have been straight back to work?

“Training has been going great, I’m loving it as always. I was back in the gym Monday morning but I would’ve been there regardless of a fight coming up or not.”

Activity is key while toning your skills in the amateur division, and is key to a successful future on the path to your enviable switch to the professional circuit. When getting the call to once again take centre stage at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, was this fact not far from your thoughts?

“To be honest mate, I was matched for Fighstar before Contenders. I love being active whether it’s Muay Thai, Kickboxing, BJJ or MMA. My coaches know this and support it to the max, always finding me something. I do feel like experience is a key component to getting better, you can be the shit in the gym but it’s hard to get that same flow in front of an audience with no experience.”

Your prolific arsenal is difficult for any given opponent on the night. Gifted with an exceptional reach advantage and explosive game, proven with your latest 1st round TKO victory over Elijah Ajala at the tail end of June at Road to Contenders 5. For the readers and fans at Fightstar who haven’t had the chance of witnessing you in action, what can fans come to expect upon your debut for the action-packed FSC22 card?

“Thank you! I feel like I’ve got a unique style for the MW division and my reach doesn’t make it any easier for anyone. I’m a better version of myself than I was at Contenders, me and my coaches are never complacent and are always thinking about development. Contenders was a good performance but I can always do better, so I would say expect to see the cleanest version of me yet.”

Your intentions along your journey have been made clear, have you set yourself any personal goals throughout the 2022 calendar?

“I’m obsessed with progression so my goal is always to be better than I was. I also want to make my debut on the K1 circuit this year.”

Looking forward, you are set to take on Nabeel Hussain when Fightstar brings one of their most anticipated cards to date to the capital. What do you make of Nabeel in the build-up to your scheduled meeting on July 15th?

“Nabeel seems like he’s been training for a while and has got a lot of experience. My coaches say not to focus on whatever my opponent is planning, my game stays the same and it’s their job to figure me out.”

Without giving too much away what steps have you been taking to make sure you walk away from Crystal Palace with yet another notch to your record?

“As I said before, at Diesel we’re all about constant progression and development. I know more about what I did wrong in my last fight than I do about what I did right, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. When I got into the changing room after my Contender’s fight I had to do 25 burpees and I knew why straight away. Every mistake from Contenders has been worked on so I’m confident we’ll bring home the win.”

As previously stated, Raj Singh and his team have outdone themselves for this card. Working hammer and tongs to make sure fight fans have a night of pure unadulterated organised violence they will not soon forget. Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?

“I can’t lie, this card is crazy! So many sick fights but I’d say watch out for Rinchen my brother from Diesel and one of the hardest workers I know, he’s super strong and technical so expect fireworks. Sabirs is sick as well, he’s fighting for the title. I always see him and Imran working so I’m expecting good fights from them both too.”

Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?

“Have fun, it’s gonna be a sick show, Fightstar has got some great matchups. I’m excited to be a part of it and watch it after. Shout-out to everyone at Diesel, my MMA team, my coach Tom, all the 10th Planet hooligans, and Chris at Excel Strength. I wanna give a special shout-out to Elijah and Arnas, they’ve spent a lot of time on me and helped me figure out my style. They’ve got me working every morning Mon – Fri constantly thinking of ways for me to develop my game.”

You’ll not want to miss the Fightstar Championship action on July 15th, it is set to be one of the most explosive cards Fightstar have brought together to date. Make sure to grab a ticket, you’ll not be disappointed.
