Contender Series Tidbits: Season 6 Week 4

Season 6 of Dana White’s Contender Series continues into its fourth week.

August 16th welcomes a further five bouts to the UFC Apex, including the first Bantamweight contests of the season.

Here is a tidbits snapshot for each of the Week 4 participants to whet the palate.

Thomas Paull (England) v Esteban Ribovics (Argentina)

Thomas Paull – A professional since 2015, Thomas Paull of Team Underground MMA has built an 11-3 professional record, with all eleven victories via KO/TKO. “Juggernaut”, who has been deaf since birth, currently rides a three-fight win-streak that includes winning both the Retribution Fighting Championship Vacant Lightweight Championship, and Golden Ticket Fight Promotions Limited Lightweight Championship.

Esteban Ribovics – A Fusion Fighting Championship Interim Lightweight Champion, and Samurai Fight House Lightweight Champion, Esteban Ribovics boasts a 10-0 professional record, with all ten victories via stoppage (five KO/TKO, five submission). The combined record of “El Gringo’s” last three opponents? 44-17-1.

Iván Valenzuela (Mexico) v Claudio Ribeiro (Brazil)

Iván Valenzuela – Solely fighting for LUX Fight League as a professional, 8-1 Iván Valenzuela is an LFL Middleweight Champion. Unbeaten at 185lbs, “Bam Bam” currently rides a five fight win-streak, and has stopped his last four opponents inside the first-round. The combined record of those four opponents? 24-12.

Claudio Ribeiro – 9-2 Claudio Ribeiro boasts a decorated professional career that includes winning the Batalha MMA Middleweight Championship, Thunder Fight Vacant Middleweight Championship, and Fusion Fighting Championship Vacant Middleweight Championship. Ribeiro has won eight of his nine professional victories via KO/TKO.

Jack Cartwright (England) v José Johnson (Dominican Republic/USA)

Jack Cartwright – A Cage Warriors Bantamweight Champion with three successful Championship defences, Jack Cartwright boasts a 10-0 professional record that includes eight first-round finishes. The combined record of his ten professional opponents? 57-21-1.

José Johnson – A Warrior Xtreme Cagefighting Bantamweight Champion, 6’0” Bantamweight José Johnson returns to Contender Series having featured in 2020. Johnson currently rides a two-fight win-streak that includes a second round submission of 6-0 Mo Miller at Fury FC 53, and a 12-second knockout of 4-1 Dualni Perry at Fury FC 57.

Hailey Cowan (USA) v Cláudia Leite (Brazil)

Hailey Cowan – Fighting out of Waco, Texas, Bantamweight Hailey Cowan boasts a 6-2 professional record. Following seven professional bouts with Legacy Fighting Alliance, ‘All Hail’ most recently fought at Invicta FC 45, submitting Monica Franco via rear-naked choke.

Cláudia Leite – In October 2021, 7-2 Cláudia Leite won the vacant Nação Cyborg Bantamweight Championship. With just 24 seconds left of the five-round bout, Leite submitted Tayná Lamounier via rear-naked choke, securing both the Championship, and her fourth victory in-a-row.

Nazim Sadykhov (Azerbaijan/USA) v Ahmad Suhail Hassanzada (Afghanistan)

Nazim Sadykhov – Since losing his professional debut in 2018, Nazim Sadykhov has amassed a six-fight win-streak that includes five stoppages (four KO/TKO, one submission). Unbeaten at Lightweight, Sadykhov’s only professional loss was at a lighter Catchweight.

Ahmad Suhail Hassanzada – An imposing Lightweight at 6’1” tall, Ahmad Suhail Hassanzada boasts a 10-1 professional record. Currently fighting out of Sacramento with Team Alpha Male, “Lion of the Ring” impressively dealt James Wilson his first professional loss at LFA 124.
