Contender Series Tidbits: Season 6 Week 5

Season 6 of Dana White’s Contender Series continues into its fifth week.

August 23rd welcomes a further five bouts to the UFC Apex.

Here is a tidbits snapshot for each of the Week 5 participants to whet the palate.

Michael Parkin (England) v Eduardo Neves (Brazil)

Michael Parkin – In September 2021, Michael Parkin won the vacant Olympus FC Heavyweight Championship following his first-round knockout of Szymon Szynkiewicz. Since, Parkin has fought twice for Rise and Conquer, taking his professional record to 5-0; all five wins are via KO/TKO.

Eduardo Neves – 22-year-old Heavyweight Eduardo Neves holds a 5-0 professional record, with all five victories via KO/TKO. “Bbzão” most recently fought at LFA 126, stopping 5-0 Brazilian André Vieira in just 64 seconds; his third first-round stoppage in-a-row.

Amiran Gogoladze (Georgia) v Darrius Flowers (USA)

Amiran Gogoladze – Fighting out of Akhaltsikhe, Georgia, 24-year-old Amiran Gogoladze boasts a 14-2 professional record; Gogoladze’s last six professional victories ended via first-round KO/TKO. “The Sniper” currently rides a three-fight win-streak that culminated with the vacant Georgian Fighting Championship Welterweight Championship.

Darrius Flowers – A professional since 2017, Darrius Flowers holds an 11-5-1 professional record, and enters Contender Series riding a three-fight win-streak built in just 21 days.  “Beast Mode” notably holds a 4-1 LFA record; after dropping his LFA debut, Flowers won four LFA bouts via KO/TKO. The combined record of those four opponents? 26-10.

Erisson Ferreira da Silva (Brazil) v Jesus Santos Aguilar (Mexico)

Erisson Ferreira da Silva – In 2021, Erisson Ferreira da Silva defeated Lun Qiu via unanimous decision on Contender Series, but fell short of a contract. Having not competed professionally since, 11-1 “Gato” returns to Contender Series for his first bout in 295 days.

Jesus Santos Aguilar – Unbeaten in over six years, 7-1 Jesus Santos Aguilar rides a seven fight win-streak against a combined 30-8 competition. An Ultimate Warrior Challenge Mexico Flyweight Champion, Aguilar successfully defended this Championship against Contender Series 2022 week 2 participant Edgar Cháirez in 2020.

Josh Wang-Kim (USA) v Cameron Saaiman (South Africa)

Josh Wang-Kim – One half of “The Twin Dragons”, Josh Wang-Kim forged a decorated 15-1 amateur career before turning professional in 2020. The San Diego, California native now boasts a 5-1 professional record built from six promotions; his only professional loss is a disqualification at LFA 127.

Cameron Saaiman – Undefeated Bantamweight Cameron Saaiman holds a 5-0 professional record, built entirely with South African promotion Extreme Fighting Championship Worldwide. In June 2022, 21-year-old “MSP” won the EFC Worldwide Bantamweight Championship, at EFC 94.

Rayanne Amanda (Brazil) v Denise Gomes (Brazil)

Rayanne Amanda – Fighting out of Belém, Pará, 11-5 Rayanne Amanda currently rides a four fight win-streak amassed in just 134 days. In 2018, Amanda won the vacant BTC Strawweight Championship after submitting Lindsay Garbatt, who had defeated Amanda earlier that year.

Denise Gomes – In 2021, Denise Gomes fought four times in eight months, winning all four bouts; remarkably, Gomes hadn’t fought professionally for 3.5 years prior. Currently riding a five fight win-streak, 5-1 Gomes has won every professional bout at Flyweight via KO/TKO.
